A while ago on television (I believe I saw this on the discovery channel) there were lights that were like sheets of paper.
No small bulbs behind a sheet or anything like that---it was just thin illuminating sheets,
and...I dont know what they were called
and its driving me crazy because I dont know what to google to find them [:0]

photoluminescent = glow in the dark after exposure to light.

I believe Ariel was referring to flexible phosphorescent displays, which do not have to be exposed to daylight (i.e. are not photoluminescent), they are electrically powered.

ah ha,i saw something like that on tomorrows world some years ago,roll-up tv or something.i think it has just reappeared.i can see the difference now its been explained.[8D]

wow Robert, I havent even seen those before! I didnt know they actually had flexible screens like that.

But still, what I think I saw on Discovery Channel was electrical- but it just lit one color, and they were using fibers of the same material and making light-up bed sheets and stuff.

I think the roll up TVs were possibly the plastic LEDs they have been devoping here in cambridge for a while now - basically they are working on LEDs that can be made with an ink jet printer rather than a semiconductor fab plant.
