Dearest TNS Colleagues,

Stars are great aren't they ?...balls of sparkly joy and diamond shimmering goodness !!

What's your favourite constellation ?

Mine is the Big Dipper or as we call it over here in the UK The Plough. I love it because it's big and looks like one, and it's easy to find !

...and yours ?

Oirion it's got to be. Besides, his sword has two M objects - M42 & M43.

If I only had a little humility, I'd be perfect.

Here is a "star trail" image of Orion I took last year:-

The phrase "star trail" is not completely correct: the red trail is the M42 nebula.

AstroPhoto Tip: you can increase the thickness of your "star trails" be de-focussing your lens,
i.e. focussing short of the infinity mark.
This will turn pinpoint stars into defocussed discs which are larger and produce thicker trails.

Here is a more complex method of defocussing Orion:-

J.B.S Haldane on the perforated eardrums which were a consequence of his pressure experiments "the drum generally heals up; and if a hole remains in it, although one is somewhat deaf, one can blow tobacco smoke out of  the ear in question, which is a social accomplishment".

I'll add my vote to the Orion camp (not that I'm inferring that Orion acts effeminate).
