I thought the Hardy-Weinberg model enables us to contrast a population's definite genetic make-up over time with the genetic structure we would expect if the population were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (i.e., not evolving).

Not knowing what you were referring to, I did a quick google.

It seems that Hardy Weinberg deals with an ideal situation, so I am not sure how accuracy comes into it, since the real world is never ideal.

As I say, this is merely my understanding from a superficial google, and no doubt you are asking this because you have been attending lectures on it.
