Snakes
« on: 25/04/2006 05:48:39 »
Is there any possible way to GET RID OF SNAKES? I'm fed up with them.  I am terrified of them.  I'm in the middle of a landscaping project at my home, and everytime I turn around, there's a blasted forked tongued, slithery, creepy snake.  I have a concrete driveway and a concrete walkway to my front door just so I can easily spot snakes.  They make me sick!!!  I have nightmares everytime I see one, and if I see one, I'm no longer able to continue working outside.  This is really becoming a major problem for me.

I know this makes me a horrible person, but I just don't care.  In my opinion, the only good snake is a dead one.

So again I ask, CAN I GET RID OF THEM?

Snakes are very sensitive to vibrations in the ground. Get yourself a good hi-fi, place the woofer on the concrete then play some drum n bass at an absurdly high volume.

On a more serious note, I don't think there's any surefire way of getting rid of them (short of the pet mongoose suggestion)

Well I'm definately going to give this a try.  I'll try blasting them away with some very loud Queen.  But just in case it doesn't work - any suggestions on how to get a pet mongoose in the country?[:)]

Now if we could get rid of the bear also it would be a perfect place to live.

thats a point, how did patrick get rid of all the snakes,i mean poor carolyn(and i dont mean financially)is having a heck of a time with just a few.[^]
as for mongoose, start a charity called somthing like "the american leaguefor the protection of meerkats",then loads of people will furnish you with their unwanted meerkats and mongooses`es`es,or is it mongi, anyway they will ensure a snake free environment,oh do you keep chickens?

You could always try simply asking them to leave. I've found that approach works extrememly well with bothersome picnic-pestering wasps. (No, I'm not joking)

Have you tried putting up a polite notice and then an earnest leaflet campaign ? You could also put a note advertising snake skin wares !

Hope this helps.

It occurred to me whether there might be some surfaces (e.g. gravel or broken glass) that snakes were uncomfortable slithering over?

Carolyn,

Do you have any neighbors you don't particularly care about?  Buy some pet mice and set them towards neighbors house and snakes will surely follow...hehe  Sorry, couldn't resist...but first train the mice have cats set up around barrier lines so they will aim towards neighbors house...:-)
