How can I control my goosebumps?
« on: 17/07/2012 11:30:02 »
Lyn Pusztai  asked the Naked Scientists:

Hi Chris,

My name is Lyn Pusztai. I am a 52 year old woman living in Chicago, Illinois USA. This question has been bugging me my whole life, and I've been googling it and finding very little on it.

I can give myself goosebumps at will, and then "create heat" and take them away on demand. I actually do this as a "party trick" these days because people get a kick out of it. I didn't realize people couldn't do it until relatively late in life. I can also speed/slow my heart rate within several beats either way (I test it on a heart monitor) though that takes more concentration. The goosebumps are effortless.

Why can I do this? It's hard for me to explain "how" I do it other than just thinking to tell my to do it, but it's more like "telling" your body to walk - it happens so fast it's really almost faster than a thought.

Is there any advantage to being able to do this? Or just a cool party trick?

Thanks,
Lyn Pusztai

What do you think?

i can do the same thing that you can and as you say i havent met no one yet that is able to control their goosebumps, ive been able to do so for many years that i remember and i find it strange but fascinating, besides that i can also make my temperature rise if i really concentrate, all this without having to think of anything, i hope i can find more info on the topic because like you, i havent found much info on it... Good luck on your search and if you get any info please forward it to me. Thanks
