remote screen view on windows 8
« on: 21/01/2013 21:43:36 »
I have upgraded my regular and spare computers to windows 8 and wanted to incorporate the remote screen view that I had with windows 7.
I tried to set it up in the same manner as windows 7 but vital bits of networking were missing but I found there was a very simple way to do it you simply search free "apps" and download one called remote viewing and it all happens automaticly.

According to Microsoft some versions of Windows 8 have remote desktop ...

Which PCs can I connect to using Remote Desktop?
You can use a PC running Windows 8 or Windows RT to initiate a connection. But you can only connect to PCs that are running these Windows operating systems:
   Windows 8 Enterprise
   Windows 8 Pro
   Windows 7 Professional
   Windows 7 Enterprise
   Windows 7 Ultimate
   Windows Vista Business
   Windows Vista Ultimate
   Windows Vista Enterprise
   Windows XP Professional

I’d double check the legitimacy of any non-microsoft remote desktop addon, it could allow unauthorized remote access to your computer.

My point was remote desktop is usually possible on Windows systems without having to download possibly insecure or horrifically expensive software.

In the interest of fairness we should mention that other remote desktop viewing programs are available ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_remote_desktop_software
[ software called "remote viewing" does not appear on the wikipedia list ]

This was not third party but a regular "app" that comes with the system
