The heavens just opened...big time !!

Does anyone else love the summer rain too !!

I just went out into the garden and enjoyed the splish splash....and now the kids have turned up from school all wet too []

..But I have to say..I'm a lover of rain

I heard this was already happening up north yesterday (which is why it surprised me that it was coming in from the south-easterly direction).

After the intense heat of the last few days, it is quite a relief (although we could do with a little more, as it is still quite warm and muggy).

Only real problem is that I had a few micro power cuts while it was happening.  Luckily my computers are all on UPS, but I forgot the my ADSL modem is not, so I lost the broadband connection, and it too a while before it would settle down again.

Gosh...I was in luck then george as I don't have a UPS or surge protector and thunder and lightning was happening all around...plus..I didn't lose my adsl either.

I guess I should get one though...I know you can pick them up from B & Q and Argos for relatively good prices but are the affordable ones any good at all ?

UPS's have come down in price a lot, and they can be had for around £30 to £40.

What you have to be sure is not to demand too much of them.

Firstly, these cheap UPS's will only support your system for about 20 minutes without power (depends upon how much power your system draws).  Since I have only once in the last 10 years had a power cut that exceeded that time, and most power cuts are only for a few seconds, then this is not really a limitation I am concerned about.

You should not run printers through a cheap UPS because their power demands can be too erratic.

The cheap UPS's can supply 350VA or 500VA – this is enough to run a couple of PC's (depending upon how powerful your PC's are), and a few network devices, but no more.  They are really only designed to run a single PC, and have a little slack on top.

Within these constraints, I have had no problems with them at all.  I started using them when I managed to lose a HDD after a momentary power cut, and since then have often been thankful that the UPS's were there when I had further mini power cuts.

I tell you Jimmy Boy...based on the heat of the last few days (late 20's early 30's C) I wish it did rain more....I just can't handle this heat....21C is just right for me !!...sorry Fahrenheit lovers..I don't do Fahrenheit.....work it out yourself !! *uh oh...heat is making me bad tempered* []

Gadzooks! 21 C is in about 73 degrees F. To me here in Texas that is nearly cool - 50's (F) is cool. You should try temps of 100 (37-38C) we have here. I have seen temps here as high as 45C - They happen at least once a year for many consecutive days. That is when you really do not want to go outside. But as a child I grew up acclimated to those temps, before household air conditioning was very common. Your spoiled. How did  the Empire ever function?

Today, here in Florida it's 92 degrees F, and it's only going to get hotter in the coming weeks.  Oh how I would love it to be 21C.

I love summer rain too, as long as it's not accompanied by a hurricane.

Hi jumbob It dosent rain that much here in the SE of england anymore and  most of us are under drought orders. Snows another thing which we see very rarely these days and when we do get it its melted within an hour or two. . I also heard that the uk is now supposed to be the tornado capital of the world , they may not be big and bad like the ones in the USA but the number of small ones which we have is supposed to outnumber those every other country in the world, i find it hard to believe though.

Neil remember your flood last year.

Humidity is a big factor on how hot it feels, last year in turkey during my holiday it was 45 degress but due to the low humidity levels  it felt on par with 30 in the uk.  When i came home it was 28 but was harder to handle than the 45 in turkey.

My friend from cuba says its so humid their that at 30 degree you cant do anything with out floods of sweat soaking through your clothes, he thinks the climate in the uk is the best he has ever experienced. But me i like the turkish heat as you can still do things, even at 45 degrees you dont break out into a heavy sweat.

Wow I did not know that about tornados there! With all the very old archetecture I would have thought The elements there such as tornados would be very mild as everything seems to stay in tact there!

   As for our weather it is 12:44 PM and it is a cool 55 degrees no sun just over cast!

Neil you won't move for me?? lol  Just kidding...I am here in lovely Texas and along with Jim Bob...we have some serious heat along with humidity!  Tornados are fun here too...but having rain at this time of the year is a rarity for us...as for me...I LOVE THE RAIN!!!  Except in the winter!  Yes, your temps for us would be cool for us...we will take 20-30C...  Jimbob...where at in Texas are you?

Neil Has the rain continued or was the sun out for the duration of the day. I do like light rains in the summer. But I love a rip roaring storm and a nice warm fire and some hot cocoa and a nice friend or a good book to talk to or read! Maybe a game of chess, checkers or scrabble.

Hey Karen, it was funny at work yesterday as the clouds started creeping in...everyone was telling me, hey, Loretta here is your beautiful weather...(they don't like thunderstorms..hehe) The new guy thought I was weird...I told him if he was not kind mother nature would zap him in the .... I had to take a golfcart and run to the other property and sure enjoyed the weather aas it was changing...I am so excited for the day as I know we will have more storms!

Sounds as if Mother Nature is fixing to put throw a wrench into the summer fun! Those are ok as long as it doesn't drone on endlessly for days, as I like to be comfortably warm!
