The brain tells everything to work right? So if the brain stops you are brain dead, so can the heart continue to pump after the brain shuts down. Hummmmm, good question but I want to say no everything goes, but I don't know! The heart pumps the blood through to oxigenate the brain so now I am changing gears and saying that your heart can still pump after the brain shuts down, but only if it has the oxygen to continue to go there but that can't be as if brain shut down wouldn't that be because of no blood pumping through the brain which could be cause for stoppingbrain function!!I have confused myself once again!

but the blood is still flowing for a few seconds afterwards...analogy...turn your car off while in gear and see if it immediately stops..ignition acts as brain..car will move still...it does not stop immediately as soon as power is disconnected...just a thought here

OK, what's the answer! I am stumped. BUt must add that brain works and is active always even duing sleep and I thought for a few moments after oxygen deprevation, 4 min or so or am I mistaken? You can go for that long without permanant damage so my guess would still be the brain!!

Ok, now I have another thought, wait no ones  running away right. Your heart pumps your blood throughout your body and so when said heart stops so does bloodflow, right! Then from experience rigamortise(SPELLING SORRY) sets in right away. The blood cools and the body becomes stiff. But I think the brain continues to function on some level afterwards as you can have brain damage after like 4 min without oxygen. So I bet it functions longer then that, but thats an uneducated guess as I am just trying to reason what I know with what makes sense, and Thats not very much!![][]
