When should one give up on a Dream?

Lets say you have a great dream...happiness love hopes wishes and desires.. Perhaps this is for a person or something you wanted to accomplish before your life is over! Just how does one know when to give up? When to throw in the towel? When to say Uncle?

When the other person is not giving you any response(I so wanted to say wood for the fire...but will behave as the meaning is a bit....oh, well read in between the lines here) As for the something...I say do it! I am planning on pulling all the things out I want to do in life and going to do each of them!
