OAP in hospital after horror stoat attack
« on: 18/10/2006 18:20:55 »
AN 89-year-old Belleeks man is recovering in hospital after being attacked while he slept in bed by a small but ferocious wild animal, writes Donal O’Reilly.

During the incident, which occurred in the early hours of October 7, John Kelly suffered bites to his face and the inside of his mouth. The attack is believed to have been carried out by a stoat, which is sometimes inaccurately referred to in this country as a weasel. However, there are no weasels in Ireland.

The most horrific aspect of the incident was, according to Mr Kelly, that he awoke to find the animal’s head in his mouth as it sucked on his blood. Speaking to the Democrat from his hospital bed, Mr Kelly explained: “I was asleep but I was woken up by the pain. This small animal had its head in my mouth and was sucking the blood out of me.
