Seems ultrasonic bird scarers are a waste of time & money : birds can't hear it ... http://www.researchgate.net/post/How_much_can_we_distract_birds_by_ultrasonic_and_acoustic_methods

What about a life-size hawk hood-ornament ? [:)]

Other pigeons. It is extremely difficult to hit a pigeon, or indeed any flighted bird, with a car. They have exceptional perception of rate of closure, excellent herd behaviour, can take off vertically, and can fly at 60 mph.

In well over a million  miles, I think I've hit no more than 3 birds. For the few minutes it takes to wash the mess off, and the negligible impact on the pigeon population, it's hardly worth worrying about.

Go to an animal shelter and get a springer spaniel. In the unlikely event that you get a Springer that won't dig its way under a fence to get at pigeons -- well the shelters have lots of dogs.

As far as when you are driving goes, pigeons are mostly urban birds. If you are driving thru town too fast for the pigeons to get out of the way then you are a despicable human being who doesn't deserve another day of luck anyway.

LOL?  Speeders have killed more innocent people than the atom bomb.

The cruelty is someone who would drive through a community ( because that is where pigeons live ) fast enough to hit one of them.

Such people are a menace to society and when called to account inevitably make a flippant and nonchalant remark so typical of a sociopath.

As a retired RN, having seen the tragedies such people have caused, I favor permanent revocation of their driver's license, confiscation of all their property except for the clothes they are wearing, and tying them to the nearest telephone pole for 24 hours times the number of miles they exceeded the speed limit.

I am not being vindictive. That is only to discourage the others in a condign and exemplary fashion.

Second offenders and drunk drivers to be permanently exiled to Eniwetok atoll.
