So why should putting your head in a bucket of water help to cure them then ?

I find that the best way to cure hiccups is to consciously try to hiccup.  Curious to know if this works for anyone else.

Yep, couldn't agree more.

My cure for insomnia is to try to stay awake. Works every time :)

Thanks Pat!  I tried your "cure" for insomnia and it worked.

If reverse psychology works for hiccups and sleep, what other kinds of twisted logic are we tormenting ourselves with[8]?

You're most welcome - I find it's a great technique and works for lots of other situations too including "don't look down" type scenarios, as well as "don't panic!" style events !
