What is your worse Nightmare!!
« on: 01/01/2007 22:31:03 »
The worse dream you have ever had. I do not mean what you think might be the worse thing that could ever think could happen to you. What I mean the worse dream you have ever had during a stretch of sleep?

I do not know if this counts because I was in a drugged state. I do not know if the state was sleep or not.

I had surgery in 2001 to try to fix a broken leg (didn't work) but during the surgery I was woken up by the anesthesiologist twice as I was not breathing. As I was coming up out of it (the state of sleep - there was no pain) the fear was off the scale. I was trying to wake up, knew I could not breathe for some reason and was having hallucinations on top of all of this. Talk about nightmare!

Yes that is quite scary I have never dreamed under anestetics and have been under many over the years.. Not being able to breath is very scary!!! After I woke this last March from My anesthesia from a surgery I had, I experienced something the called stridder.. I call it inability to breath and severe panic at inability to breath, while they sat and said breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth, problem was me nose was sealed shut from having a cold and normal sinus problems.. I am always congested when I wake untill I move around a bit!! Was very scary but no dream..

My wosre nightmare was A dream about me grampa being dead and comming to take me to the grave with him.. I won't go into details as it is not a comfortable dream and still bothers me....

One of the worst nightmares I had when I was a kid was going on holiday with my parents and sister. You see whenever we went on holiday we would go out the back way. Anyway my sister and I were in the car with my mum. She said have you got your pillow which I had forgotten. So I ran back into the house to find all my cuddly toys and action figures waiting for me at the top of the stairs. I ran away screaming as they started to come down the stairs for me. I ran to the back door to find that my dad had just locked it and they drove off as the toys came into the kitchen. I woke up before they got to me which was kinda nice.

Being alone and forgotten is one of my biggest fears, so I guess from the dream that I had as a kid kinda fits in with that.

There is another dream that I had a year or so ago. But I'm keeping that one to myself. Lets just say that I really fear my dark side and in this dream I was in a dark time.

teh worst nightmare that comes to mind immediately is that I'm sitting in a dentists chair, and the dentist is there complete with scaling tools, and he's coming straight at me with a scraper, but instead of scraping my teeth he scrapes the whites of my eyes.

I have a bit of a thing about eyes now, and its a miracle I can put my contact lenses in!

several times. but I also 'remember' the dream when I'm awake sometimes too! not very pleasant!

I'd like laser eye surgery to make me see again but just can't bring myself to even look into it!

nah, its not that bad. I'm sure I can live without eye surgery! contacts are working just fine, so I can't be that scarred. the optician even had to put them in himself the first time, which is odd for someone like me to have to sit still and watch someone poke me in the eye with a little bit of plastic!!!! No fear of the dentist either. I expect if my eyes get too bad for lenses I'll just grit my teeth and go for the laser. if my nan did it (for cataracts, essentially the same thing) then I'm damn sure I can too!  [:-\]

My boyhood nightmare was a monster trying to steal my pillow. Another was a chase followed by being crushed by a rock. The one that woke me in tears of pain was scientific hellish. I dreamt of my hand oustretched in a black void, and in my hand a pin, that weighed tonnes. With a feeling of crushing in my emotions, dull pain, and sometimes a black grand piano, but it didn't seem to be the worst. It seemed lighter. I woke up crying and my mum helped me.

Those are some unusual dream things I wonder what you may have been going through back then! The black void thing is interesting as is you were allowing your hand into the unkown or the dark.. Perhaps you were afraid of the dark and trying to allow yourself to explore the unknown in your life.. Perhapsthere were emotions you had locked up about this fear perhaps the black piano represented the black void and you used it to ease your fear of the dark or the unknown thus making the grand piano lighter somehow, or lessoning the fear.. who knows.. It is very interesting.. How old were you when this dream occurd. You said your mum helped you.. Was your DAd in the picture back then?

I sometimes dream about dead people, including family, and it usually involves plenty of blood. not had one of those for quite a while though fortunately. dead people hanging from trees is a good one too. I'm sure these ones have more to do with watching horror films late at night though! case in point: Event Horizon. still can't watch that one alone!

I had a feeling your father was not there..Sometimes children feel as if the world rests on their shoulders, I have seen this a lot with boys that age when their father figure is absent.. Perhaps you were feeling weighed down by the weight and pressure of having to be perhaps more mature or the man of the house so to speak.. Was it a new thing your dad being gone a lot at that point..? May I go further to explain how your dream was might be representing trauma in your head.. You were taking on perhaps a new role and maybe afraid of not knowing how to handle it... The pin and you mean a straight pin right? (not an ink pen). Oh I am not sure about the pin yet... I have been thinking about it sense you posted.. It has me baffled.. but seems there would be a point to it! (Sorry, that was not meant as a pun.)  I am completely in awe of dreams and mine always tell me a lot about things I am going through.. You need to really spend some time on self reflection as this is a good way to learn about yourself and your mind...

As I am here drawn back to answer your post again, I have suddenly thought about the pin.. Small enough to be a needle in a haystack or that perhaps you felt small, Like the pin in the middle of this vast dark void. The piano representing the burden of trying to be brave without your father.. Did you have a sense of being alone in the dream when your hand entered the black void..? Perhaps you felt as if you were being put out there into a situation you were not familiar or ready to handle at your age...Testing new territory or resposibilities, Perhaps being more grown up then you should have had to be at that point in your life.. I don't know, but you should think about the things that were happening then and ponder them.. really think hard about them.. you will benefit from the meditations regarding these dreams. I always do.. Dreams are quite amazing when you think about them.. there are so many things they can mean depending on the situation. In my first post to you I felt a very definite loss of your father that is why I asked you about where he was at that point in your life.. I believe that is where you will find answers to that dream if you want to find them.. Meditation is good.. Explore what you were feeling back then.. It will help you now.. Meditation helps with many things, understanding feelings and coming to grips with other things also..Good luck and feel free to post more of your dreams and nightmares They are very interesting.. You are interesting also!! How old are you?? No pressure just curious!

I was alone in the dream. In my thirties now. Mum did tell me then that I was the man of the house. Unreliabley. I was unaware of troubles in my father's absence, loved my dad, but only felt the loss when neither mum nor dad were there.

Once I woke up at midnight, just got up, and turned on the TV and saw a horror film. Typical seventies thing, midnight horror films.

Only now do I begin to realise just how important having a father is, and how important being a good one is.

As I slept I was right next to my mum.

It sounds like you had interesting childhood. Were you alone a lot. Neither parent.. I assume your mum was working at the time.. I hear you say you were not aware of the problems, I bet you were in your subconscious! A lot of times as children we put things, "away" so to speak allowing ourselves to be able to cope better. I am not sure, as a protective device our mind kind of tables things for us that we are not able to handle or get a firm grip on.. Who Knows.I did have a sense you felt alone in the dream again why I asked..

Do you watch horror films these days? Do you like them alot? That definitely was a 70's thing. I watched them too! Night stalker was big and then it seemed the outerlimits etc. Lots of old movies also that were scary..

I am glad you were there for your Mum and she was for you for the most part.. I understand the loss of my husband being gone when my kids were gone.. I had to try to do everything myself.. The kids were very needy of there father.. I was a good mom, but definitely no replacement for their Dad! It is very important for children to have both parents.. It is of coarse not always possible. And thats not to say that they cannot thrive without one or the other, but it does help in achieving a balance for them and getting two perspectives in their life which really is very healthy. Children are not easy to raise alone no matter what kind of good parent you are.. There are many stresses and it is just hard to be the only care provider.

Weather you be a mum or Dad, It is important to do your best and make sure you are a good reponsible parent. Children need a stable enviornment. Idealy both parents, if that is not possible they still need both parents, even as seperate units as long as they are in agreement as to the importance of both remaining in the childs life.. You can raise wonderful children without a marraige partnership, as long as you are civil and understanding of the childs needs..

I have seen many relationships that were not as loving as they should be.. Things missing in the marraige and the parents unhappy with each other but keep staying together because of the children.. This kind of relationship usually hurts the children the most as they do not learn the value of real loving relationship.. No doubt both parents love their children, but when there is no real spark in a marraige only companionship even that sometimes lacking, then the children are definitely affected.. Children need to learn how to love each other.. and care about each other also. I am in a marraige of companionship We thought we were so in love.. but we are good friends.. My children are grown but I see in them the mistakes we made by not being happy in our own marraige not modeling real love and affection for them.. Children need to see love kisses hugs passion in their parents relationship.. It helps them to develope healthy relations in their own lives..

There has been no affection displayed in my marraige, friendship, but no real passion . For my children, make no mistake they are ok, but they really lack a the ability to see real love right now and I see them really suffering in their relations. We never fought as a couple, and if we had a disagreement, we talked about it while the children were at school or we made arrangments for a break away from them to discuss problems. Even if that meant leaving them with grandma for and hour or so!Sometimes we would go to the park or beach and let them play while we quietly talked... We have never been yellers or shouters. We are always very civil..too civil sometimes.. lol

I am very grateful we were able to raise our children the only regret was and is, that we both should have done it with partners who were passionant and loving towards each other.. not just friends.. Sounds weird, but thats how we feel today... You are a better parent a better person when you are really in love with your partner..When there is real passion shared between two people it touches all those around them especially the children... I have seen this so many time and wih I had had this in my marraige..

I am glad you know how important being a good father is and I am sure knowing this your children are very lucky indeed..

how can a whole year be your worse nightmare? its only just begun! a bit of optimism please!!

has it really been that bad so far? I hope things are OK. If its that bad, then things can only get better. and I say that is a current state of depression and misery, so I really should listen to myself!

personally, I think 2006 was a bit of a nightmare. glad I got through it relatively unscathed. although I think I might be a few friends lighter. thats life.

Thats pretty awful. those 25 years couldn't have been all bad? you must have some good memories there. I've not been through it, but am at the end of an email if you want to chat less publicly any time.

I have three beautiful children and My husband remains my good friend.. Have met wonderful people in my life and have had things happen that were terrible, but without them I would not be who I am and would not be here now.. I am grateful that I am alive to say that .. and Will keep telling myself that... because I know that there is always good that comes from the rain in ones life and also from the pain..
