« on: 14/01/2007 21:19:52 »
FIRST OF ALL. I HAVE A BROWN THUMB FOR ANYTHING THAT GROWS IN MY HOME UNLESS IT IS A CHILD.. LOL THEY DO MARVELOUSLY!

SECONDLY, I ADORE PLANTS BIG LEAFY GREEN PLANYS HOUSE OR OUTSIDE. I HAVE 1 PLANT IN MY HOME I HAVE MOVED IT TO THE BATHROOM WHERE IT ENJOYS THE MOIST ATMOSPHERE! I STILL SEEM TO TORTURE IT. THE TAG, WHEN I BOUGHT IT TWO YEARS AGO SAID.. TROPICAL PLANT..BUT NOT WHAT KIND, OR HOW TO CARE FOR IT. IT IS BIG, AND BUSHY BUT NOW LOOKING SPARSE AND SOMETIMES THE LEAVES TURN VERY BROWN AND CRUMBLE AS I FORGET TO WATER IT AS OFTEN AS I SHOULD. MY DILIMA IS THAT SOMETIMES MY LEAVES GET YELLOW COLORED AND WASHED OUT LOOKING SAGGY.. WHAT CAUSES THIS? IS IT LIGHTING, OR TOO MUCH WATER PERHAPS OR AGAIN NOT ENOUGH! I DO HAVE A BIG BOX OF MIRACLE GROW WHICH I SELDOM USE AS I JUST REMEMBERED I HAVE IT.. SO THIS PARTICULAR PLANT HAS NEVER BEEN FED IN THE TWO YEARS I HAVE OWNED IT. I DON'T WANT TO KEEP TORTURING IT, BUT WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO MAKE IT STRONG FULL AND HEALTHY IF I COULD! LOL HELP PLEASE IF YOU KNOW WHAT I HAVE DONE WRONG!!!

Hi Karen check that the pot is big enough and that its roots have somewhere to grow, does it receive enough sunlight try moving it again ,in the bathroom could it be getting splashed by water containing detergents.
Try feeding it but its easy to overfeed something with miracle grow slow release granules are safer

If none of the above help please don't cry.:)

It is getting mainly morning sun, till just before noon. It has a wall between it and the shower so no splashing of detergents or cleaning crud.. I like mostly natural cleaning products aside from a few neccesary ones.. which come nowhere near the plant. I had it in livingroom getting some indirect light from the southwest side, and an indirect skylight! But it was worse! I will try some granules...  Will try to not cry!! LOL Thanks for the advice.

Has this little plant perked up? Or has it gone to the great big dead plants society in the sky?

Well Denty as of Yesterday morning I went in, and because of I haven't been well the last three weeks I have neglected my plant! I seen My plant was bone dry.. was turning all brown the dirt was hard as a rock..It was still very green but sparse with lots of dying spots. I doused it with a bunch of water..I will try to take a picture of my pretty.. sad plant! right now be back!By the way it used to be big and bushy and full!!!three or so years ago!

It looks very similar to the temperate clematis - but yours is tropical? Is it evergreen? Does it flower? It looks asthough it's supposed to be a climber.....I'll look further tomorrow...

It is sad.. looked like a beautiful full bush when I got it. Now it looks scraggly.. LOL It is Tropical and is evergreen house plant as far as I know. Has never bloomed although I have tortured it so badly I wouldn't bloom either if I were it! LOL

Thanks again..

It might be a Clematis cirrhosa, but don't qoute me on it!

If it is a climber, then it will not stay bushy for long, and you'll need to prune it to promote flowering. Here are some tips i found for Clematis cirrhosa:

PRUNING CLEMATIS GROUP 1
Clematis in pruning group 1 flower on last year's wood and therefore should not be cut back down to near ground level (especially montanas, armandii, chrysocoma and gracilifolia which can be killed by hard pruning). This group should be lightly pruned to remove all dead and wispy growth. Additional pruning can be performed to remove three or four year old wood to reduce the bulk of the plant. Cut each stem just above a pair of healthy buds.

The diagram below is showing that the silver coloured stems should be pruned, leaving the brown stems in place. Pruning is best done after flowering, but can also be done in late winter.

If you are unable to water it as often as you'd like, there are gels that you can combine into the soil which release water slowly. This might help!
