baboo, this post will help you find information about POIS that we have already discussed, by tailoring a Google search to this forum:

SEARCH THE FORUM WITH GOOGLE

We have an overwhelming amount of data: 3 years' worth of posts (over  10,000 posts!) from 150+ Forum members, and an additional 150 POIS sufferers found elsewhere on the Internet by Member B_Jim.

In the Google search box, type
whatever-it-is-you're-interested-in-finding-out[space]POIS[space]site:http://thenakedscientists.com/

for example, I tried
nocturnal emission POIS site:http://thenakedscientists.com/

and 740 results came up for "nocturnal emission" within the Forum.

be careful with spaces (you can use them before the word "site") and no-spaces (everything after the word "site")

Google even provides you results with the Message# for each result. But Message #'s do change, so be patient and look for the approximate Message#.

Attention:     POIS Volunteers Needed!     Important announcement from THE LEARNING CHANNEL - FOR A POIS TV DOCUMENTARY !

Hey everyone!

Thanks again for the enormous support about the TLC show on POIS.  I am really looking forward to speaking with anyone who is considering participating (or at least wants to learn more) and all those who have stepped up and said they would volunteer!

I am sure the holiday season was hectic for most of you, and I have yet to be in contact with anyone.  I would like to determine who is interested so I can start the process and learn more about you.

Please email me at lsavino@sirensmedia.com, if you would like to learn more about the show and possibly participating!

Without participants, we are unable to move forward with the show.  But it is clear through this forum how prevalent and debilitating POIS can be.  So we are really hopeful that we can connect with someone through this forum!

Thanks everyone and hope everyone is having a great start to their new year!!

It seems my friend, that the opportunity is just going to slip away.

It's complicated though. For most of us, not even our closest family knows. It's like "coming out of the closet". Exposing ourselves to the world, when not even your parents or brothers and sisters know.

And all that could be offered in return is a humble medal of honour, in the halls leading to the cure for POIS.

This is a shame, an opportunity like this might not come round again.

Very true apart from people on here and a handful of doctors know about POIS that's it it's a fairly inconspicuous condition. After O's theres little physical change that can be seen by the naked eye in case, my face becomes quite puffy eyes don't appear normal 'heavy' and my joints crack alot...

Thanks for the welcome.
I'm wondering, does Ibuprofen help with the brainfog? At times in the past I have used it for this and it always seemed to help. I read it reduces prostglandins?
Meh, I'm still in a dream-like state of brainfog. Slept in this morning, just couldn't get myself out of bed.

Does POIS have anything in common with chronic fatigue syndrome?

I have tried Ibuprofen, Diclofenac and even Tramadol in PIOS they help very little with brainfog.

Supplements that I've personally found to work are;

B vitamins
L-carnitine
5-HTP
Glutamine

No supplement or medicine I found that works better than time, unfortunately that something we can't always afford to spare.

There are lots of common symptoms between POIS and chronic fatigue, but chronic fatigue for the most part seems more consistant like a permanent state. In my case it was found I have out of range testosterone, now that I have been on testosterone replacement for over 4 months my fatigue and weakness after an O's relatively mild, the worst symptom is the brainfog.

Thanks for the info, I will try get some glutamine and carnitine and see if they help. I've read that glutamine is supposed to be good for the stomach, hopefully it might help with my poor digestion. I've read b12 is supposed to be helpful for brainfog too.
Best wishes for your recovery.

"Interestingly, I was googling about fatigue and came across something called Post Orgasmic Illness Syndrome. It's not a recognized illness but a term for people suffering fatigue symptoms post-orgasm. I recall a few people on here mentioned suffering brainfog after orgasm, which is a problem I have too. So maybe that's the actual problem. I know meds affect hormones and such. Supposedly sea salt water and liquiruce tea help.

Meh, who knows what's going on."

'ello there fellow POISers.

POISers.... lolz.

Apparently they have latex condoms with (4%) benzocaine lubricant that desensitizes. GREAT if you dont want an "O"..... you can also get Anbesol (normaly used to numb the mouth) with 20% benzocaine. Just throwing this out there for those who want to get intimate but are fearful of the disastrous POIS "O".

Virus likely cause of CFS
Saturday, June 26, 2010

Author: (FDS) There is hope for patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). According to the American Institutes of Health NIH is the disease likely linked to a virus.

ADHESE IMU (Article) - 2K - DO NOT REMOVE

ADHESE TEXT LINK - DO NOT REMOVE
About

Gezond.CVS or myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) is an umbrella term for symptoms related to fatigue, chronic inflammation of the spinal cord and / or muscle pain. The cause of CFS is still shrouded in riddles. Our country is still believed that CFS is a psychological disorder. That is why this week, two doctors were ordered to pay back 635,000 euros to the disease because of the frequent prescription of expensive drugs in CFS patients.

Not "between the ears

For several years indicate growing evidence that CFS is not "between the ears, but is linked to viruses such as herpes and enteroviruses (in the intestines). In October last year published American specialists in the journal Science a study showing that 67 of their 101 CFS patients were infected with the retrovirus XMRV range. This virus occurs in healthy blood donors and people hardly are (still) not scanned. The scientists assumed that XMRV is transmitted through blood transfusions and infection causes CFS.

That finding is now confirmed by Harvey Alter of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). Alter is the specialist in infections of the NIH and the discoverer of the virus that causes hepatitis C. In late May he said in a conference decided that the figures in Science "extremely strong and probably correct. We (NIH) have their own research findings can be confirmed. Would not alter his statements in public again because it is developing its own publication.

Yet responding CVS doctors and patients excited. Because if there is a physical cause for CFS is detected, the patients also increased in the hope of a specific treatment.

I didn't follow the news about Сhronic fatigue syndrome. There are other doctors who say that there weren't found any viruses.

Van,

You mention:
"myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) is an umbrella term for symptoms related to fatigue, chronic inflammation of the spinal cord", from the article.

Although it could and probably IS caused from the mentioned viruses, doesn't mean that it is not produced from anything else. I'm sure that it has something to do with POIS as well.

Being that, in our case, it is affected by orgasm, it is possible that some hormonal or auto-immue reaction created by an imbalance in one of those systems could aggravate the meninges (lining of the nervous system) vis-a-vis the article quoted by pyro-peach in Scientific American, a fair while back.

In that case, tests in rats showed that if they could talk, they would have complained of POIS sysmptoms when a certain protien, IP4, was inhibited after certain exercises. This protien is normally produced to counter inflamation that normally shouldn't occure because there is no viral antagonist to fight.

The anti-inflamatory protien blocked meninges inflamation.... both system wide and in the brain cavity.... myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME).

The more direct links I couldn't find, the language in anti-immune medicine is WAY over my head. But I felt as though something like one of the sperm production elements, or even sperm itself, normally DON'T require auto-immune reactions, so something like IP4 is NORMALLY produced to inhibit inflamation (and auto-immune attacks). But if such production is inhibited.....?

Well, at least it gave me someting to play with [:D]

baboo, there's been a lot of speculation about that here. Some previous posts for you:

Would it be possible for Lindsey to post here again to clarify the format of the participation?  That is, would it be possible to have visual blurring and/or voice-changing effects, in order to preserve anonymity?

POIS VOLUNTEER NEEDED FOR TLC PROGRAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UPDATE

Here is a clarification to our volunteer request!

REGARDING ANONYMITY AND PRIVACY

Unfortunately, for the purposes of his show we cannot blur the participant.  The reason the show has been very successful in the past is because viewers feel like they get to know and relate with the participant.  The show aims to tell personal and heartfelt stories.  But viewers have a hard time connecting with and empathizing with a person if they cannot see their face.  In fact, the topic can actually become more abstract or "strange" to the viewer through this approach.

We are happy to change the name and allow for minimum disguise (wig, facial hair, etc) but ultimately, we are looking for someone who is OK with being completely open about their condition.  We think it is important to have a candid expression of someone suffering from POIS, in order to expose the true nature of this condition.

Sadly, we have not found someone who is comfortable enough to appear on camera as part of the program.  We are still looking for a volunteer, and hope that we will find the right person to speak on behalf of POIS.

Please send me an email at lsavino@sirensmedia.com if you are considering participating in the show!!

Hope to hear from you!!

Lindsey Savino
