ty demo, i figured it was obvious why i was curious =) but moving on, i am curious now about this:

Speaking about the mental aspect of POIS:

Say because of whatever POIS is, something is messed up in our body that causes other problems, ie, a certain % of memory and cognitive dysfunction even when we havent O'ed in forever. Of course we cannot really measure what our fullest cognitive n memory functions would be, since we really have no point of reference.

I am interested in seeing w/e this "treatment" is, and being open to the possibility that trying the treatment alone, without O'ing, might bring benefits in and of itself.

This assumes of course that there is a standing deficiency within the body wherein an O causes all these POIS symptoms.

Can Dr. Waldinger at least give us a timeline of when the information may be published?
If POIS has to do with metabolism. Than it might be that we had other symptoms of POIS without an O.

I noticed that in the period before my first O I was a little bit negative. And that without a reason. Things went well: study, job, family, friends. And in the period with O's I became more and more negative. I screwed up a few relationships. When the relationship is nearly to a deeper next level I always managed to find something negative in the woman. And than I ended the relationship. If I didn't had POIS I would now probably have a wife and children. Sometimes I react very irritable. After a few hours I think to myself: that's not me. I am not myself.

Vandemolen, I don't think you're to blame at all. I have a wife and 2 kids and a devastating POIS history combined over the last 30 years. Maybe I was lucky?

To:   Prof. dr. Marcel Waldinger Sent:     Thursday, July 29, 2010 Subject:  Re: Easy searching of 9,000 Posts at POIS Forum. Example: I just searched the POIS Forum for discussions regarding nitric oxide. 103 results came up.
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&rlz=1W1DAUS_en&q=nitric+oxide+POIS+site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fthenakedscientists.com&aq=&aqi=&aql=&oq=nitric+oxide+POIS+site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fthenakedscientists.com&gs_rfai=&fp=352cc2a2a6e29fda
Dear Dr Waldinger,
This will help you find information at the POIS Forum that we have already discussed amongst us, by tailoring a Google search to this forum only: SEARCH THE FORUM WITH GOOGLE We have an overwhelming amount of data: 3 years' worth of posts (more than 9,000 posts) from 300+ Forum members, including 150 POIS sufferers found elsewhere on the Internet by Member B_Jim. (Total 300+ POIS sufferers) In the Google search box, type whatever-it-is-you're-interested-in-finding-out[space]POIS[space]site:http://thenakedscientists.com/for example, I trieddemografx POIS site:http://thenakedscientists.com/and 1,000+ results came up for "demografx" within the Forum. Be careful with spaces (you can use them before the word "site") and no-spaces (everything after the word "site") Google even provides you results with the Message# for each result. But Message #'s do change, so be patient and look for the approximate Message#.
Best regards, [demo]

I just got an email from my endo, who apologized for his researcher getting cold feet about helping us with POIS research. He further acknowledged that POIS "just doesn't get the respect it deserves." that made me feel good: a well-respected university endo saying this!

Now why don't I get email from the 3 girls in the snow????

Is low red blood cells the cause of POIS? cause the past month ive ben masterbating everyday sometimes 3 times a day....and i have pois the only thibg i get is lightheaded for like 30mins and i feel fine.

But the other sysmptoms are still there..brain fog, lazzynes et...

Or mabe my boddy is makeing more hormones, im about to turn 20 btw.

Im guessing if i get more blood in my boddy or more oxygen to the blood it might cure pois...

Any of you guys heard of a hypoberic chamber?

I just found this forum discussion about POIS and I'm wondering if I have it.

I am a 21 year old male, and have been masturbating for at least 10 years. I have typically masturbated about 2-3 times a week, so not too often, but when I do I nearly always have multiple orgasms (ie. I keep going at it). Usually I masturbate for about 5-10 mins at once (off and on), sometimes less. This has never caused me any problems except sometimes feeling a little bit fatigued afterwards (who doesnt!), and sometimes getting muscle pain in my legs (which may be a build up of lactic acid maybe?).

About a month ago (I think 30th June) I was masturbating just before going to bed and when I was in bed I started to have very weird sensations. It's difficult to describe, but it was almost like I could feel my blood moving at certain parts of my body, mainly in my legs and then in my neck. I would feel it in my legs then about 2 seconds later in my neck. This continued all night off and on. I felt very sick and like I was going to pass out. Since that night I have not had that specific sensation again.

However, since then I have had a wide range of health problems.

For the first two weeks after the incident, I was getting constant lightheadedness, which seemed to be related to my neck posture. I found that when I was leaning down or if my neck was not supported (ie. sitting at PC), I would start to feel lightheaded. I have never had anything like this happen before. Also, I have become very irritable and have needed to almost constantly shake my leg to stop myself from feeling faint/lightheaded. The lightheadedness seems to have pretty much gone in the last week or so though in regards to my neck position, which seems to have no effect on anything now, so I'm almost back to normal in that sense.

I have been having very poor sleep, and am unable to sleep for more than 4-5 hours at once, and often getting only 2-3 hours of sleep a night. Before the incident I never had problems with sleep and would always sleep 8-9 hours a night no problem. Since then I always wake up at least once during the night but often more.

Some days I have felt completely exhausted during the day and have had no energy at all. For about 4-5 nights a couple of weeks ago I was excessively thirsty during nights often with sweating hands. Also, every time I wake up I have been getting numb hands. I seem very sensitive to the temperature and have had multiple shaking fits on different nights.

In general, my symptoms seem to be changing every few days. For a few days I woke up feeling very 'sick', but no vomiting. I have been doing a lot of burping though and have some difficulty eating sometimes and have had a loss of appetite.

But one thing that seems to be a constant problem for the last month is my breathing. I am having to nearly always manually breathe, and I am very sensitive to the air quality. I am having random breathlessness.

I have lost a few KGs from 65 down to 62 which is a lot for me since I'm already pretty skinny.

I get random nerve pains in my body for a few seconds at a time and have had a lot of skin twitching.

My chest has had a tightness feeling off and on.

Had a fever on only one night about 2 weeks ago.

Have had constant feelings of 'dying', as though my body is shutting down, I have all of a sudden become quite unfit and unable to run without feeling extremely fatigued, and I have got into a massive habbit now of checking my pulse to make sure I'm still OK. I have had a blood test and ECG and both came back fine - all results in normal range except glucose which is slightly lower. Often when I have a jellybean or eat food I feel better but I don't know if that's a placebo effect or not...

I have been getting occasional inner ear pain.

How I can feel can change almost instantly - one minute good, next bad, etc etc. I feel best when I'm in the sunlight, but relaxing in one spot on chairs seems difficult.

Since the first incident I have masturbated only once since then (about a week ago, when i felt i was feeling better and 'back to normal'), and regretted it afterwards as I have felt significantly worse since then... I'm fine with giving up masturbation/sex permenantly if it means I don't have to put up with these symptoms any more!

Does anyone think I have POIS or do you think it's something else? I recently had a dental x-ray and my bottom wisdom teeth are sideways and desperately need to come out, and I may possibly have TMJ Disorder... I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it? Or if all my problems are caused just from the recent masturbation.... ? The masturbation I did a month ago before all the symptoms started was quite vigorous, so maybe I over-masturbated and have caused some damage to my nervous system or some other organ? I'm really hoping this isn't permenant....... Before this incident I have been perfectly healthy and have never had any conditions or problems.

Do others have a few POIS-symptoms in smaller scale after masturbation/sex without an O/ejaculation? In that situation my saliva is a bit thicker. And I have more moisture in my eyes. A little irritated nose. I don't get sick like after an O, but I don't feel 100 percent.

yes, which i why i wondered whether Vasopressin is involved/ or could be involved in helping pois.
Vasopressin is released at the point of arousal.
i feel my problem starts at the point of arousal not the actual 'O' itself, as like you, i get some pois even without an O.
be interesting to find out if pois sufferers have a lower or higher production of Vasopressin during arousal(?)

In 1997 in the BMJ, a 10 year research study into 1000 middle aged men at Queens University, Belfast revealed that sex on a regular basis is not just healthy but also increases lifespan. Men were matched for similar age and health, and those with the highest orgasm frequency displayed half the death rate of men who did not have such frequency of orgasm. Researchers believed it was due to the stress reduction effect of sex.  Interestingly levels of DHEA is increased five times higher during orgasm or just before ejaculation. DHEA is produced by the adrenal cortex and is found in higher levels in people who live longer.

Improved Senses:
Sex improves the senses – e.g  the sense of smell. After orgasm there is a rise in prolactin, a hormone. This makes the brain’s stem cells grow new neurones in the olfactory bulb, the area responsible for the sense of smell, increasing a person’s ability to smell.

Reduces Risk of Heart Attack and Stroke:
A 2001 follow up to the Queen’s Belfast study (Shah Ebrahim) found that men who had sex 2-3 times a week reduced their chances of having a heart attack or stroke by half.

Sex is a natural pain reliever:
Sex is also a pain reliever. Just before orgasm oxytocin levels rise by five times triggering endorphins, the body’s natural pain-killers.

Improves Blood Circulation:
Sex improves blood circulation, via increased breathing rate and oxygenation.

Improves Immune System:
Those who have sex 1-2 times a week present 30% greater amounts of the immune-boosting antibody IgA (Wilkes, University Pennsylvania).

O's in ppl with POIS may still do all these things. we dont know yet what the cause is or what's involved. then again, ppl with POIS could be doing damage just by O'ing. we wont know until we have concrete evidence of the cause.

Seminewt, it sounds like you are having panic attacks.  I wouldn't be too quick to attribute your symptoms to anything in particular.  I  strongly recommend seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist.

If Vasopressin is involved than POIS-patients must have too much of it. Because edema (holding moisture) is one of the symptoms.

I think everybody with POIS has POIS-symptoms even without an O. Maybe it has too do with the making of sperm? This proces might change the metabolism. And after an O there is a lot of sperm being made and released.

Water retention is a problem with the lymphatic system, or drainage system of the tissues, vasopressin is not involved in that system.

Personally, no "O" no POIS. I've gone so far as to have penetration and then stop before the orgasm, and everything stays OK. Little hard on the desire, but.....
