Nice!
I am loving the way the forum has become the one stop source for pois. It easy to give outside parties what they need.
Where are all those naked scientist joke-stars and haters now.

And it's going to get hectic... this is only the begining!

Good news about TVs! We can eventually be flooded with posts... (and hopefully researchers).

Interesting theory about colon inflammation. This could cause fat malabsorption causing vitamin D deficiency and other symptoms.

About cold baths:
Deloun mentionned cold water to help with noradrenaline (neuro for motivation)
For some reasons I believe noradrenaline is involved (at least in my POIS).

Defsync mentionned cold bath to block cytokines.

NA also helps with inflammation:
Quote
evidence suggests that noradrenaline has a tonic anti-inflammatory action in the central nervous system(CNS) via its ability to inhibit expression of inflammatory mediators from glial cells. Consequently it is suggested that noradrenaline may play an endogenous neuroprotective role in CNS disorders where inflammatory events contribute to pathology
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20061033

Tissot said cold bath is one of the two best remedies to recover from disease caused by sex. This means this has been successfully tested on patients. (Note that the summary of Tissot's book is now on page 428 due to major posts deletion!)

I think cold sitz baths are mentionned on the forum recover.forumup.com

Cold baths are stimulating the locus coeruleus (the main source to produce noradrenaline - opioids inhibit the firing of neurons in the locus coeruleus)
Quote
Treatments for depression range from medicines that can come with scary side effects to electric shock therapy, but a new paper suggests a simple cold shower might sometimes cure, and even prevent, the debilitating mood disorder.
Cleanliness may be a pleasant side effect, but the key lies in the water temperature.
The study's author, Nikolai Shevchuk, believes the biological explanation revolves around a part of the brainstem known, appropriately enough, as the locus ceruleus, or "blue spot."
Shevchuk, who formulated the theory while working in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, told Discovery News that short, cold showers may stimulate the blue spot, which is the brain's primary source of noradrenaline -- a chemical that could help mediate depression. "The possible antidepressant effect may also have to do with the mild electroshock delivered to the brain by a cold shower,

I agree, daveman! If Dr Waldinger's 2002 paper is any indication, the media world seized the "new POIS news" back then. This time around MUCH more momentum has built. We can see it happening already: witness TLC and BBC _before_  Dr W's papers are even released!

POIS Volunteer needed!

(Re-posting from The Learning Channel)

RE: The Learning Channel program about POIS

Thanks for all the AMAZING feedback, comments, and resources!  This is going to be a huge help to our efforts!

Here is a bit more info about some specifics we are looking for:
We are ideally hoping to interview someone on-camera who has been dealing with a severe case of POIS that has significantly impacted their life.  We are looking for someone in the US, and we would travel to that person to do the filming.  We also provide financial compensation for the time and effort of participating.  Finally, we are hoping to find someone who might be in a relationship - where their partner could also speak about how the condition has impacted their relationship.  But this is not a requirement.

If you would be interested in speaking with me more about the potential of participating, I would love to speak over the phone.  To set something up, please email me information about your experience POIS and way for me to reach you.  You can email me at lsavino@sirensmedia.com.

Thanks again for all of the incredible support.

Sorry to hear that Habibou. But the colon inflammation and the gluten intolerance can exsist beside POIS. I had my colon checked too. But there was nothing to see. Others on this forum said that they have no gluten intolerance.

But I am sure that these 2 disseases worse POIS. Good luck at your specialist.

Ja, you are perhaps right .. but as we all know, there is no "one typ of POIS"
If it was just one, we would get exactly the same symptoms , and the intensity of it !
My POIS came slowly and i started to really feel it after some time.
The gluten intolerance is known to make some brain disorder with the time : schizophrenia, athism, epilepsy , neuromuscular disorder (what i have), and some "unknown things".
Let's wait Dr Waldinger investigation  [:)]

Hello, I'm new here, I've checked this forum for a few weeks. I've had POIS for 5 years, I'm 19 now, my symptoms are : extreme tiredness, no envy to do anything, difficulties to think, to speak, sometimes headaches, blade face. That last 5-6 days. But after I can have other problems, particulary I'm sometimes extremely thirsty after eating, and that doesn't stop if I drink, althought I drink 1.5 liters it's I'm still thirsty. And meantime I get a headache and problems in thinking. That stop a few hours later.
I had an O yesterday, now I can't do anything, that takes me a lot of time to write this message.
Waiting for dr Waldinger results...

And sorry for my english, I'm french

Yes this sounds like POIS. We are all waiting, welcome to the line up.

I am currently experiencing some symptoms. I had an NE a few days ago and I am mentally slow and fuzzy. This morning I had some bad gas and there was some horrendous odours, I'm sure it would set off gas detectors in some buildings. There is definately a digestive connection.  Last night I tried a cool bath but it didn't seem to help (I'm too wussie to have it cold).  I tried taking some herbal diuretic pills but that didn't seem to help any. I'll probably toss them, but I am still committed to reducing my salt intake, as I have heard that we all generally consume way more salt than we need.

Yeah, I notice if I don't O for about 1 to 2 weeks, the next O will be followed by just tiredness.  If I "O" again, it may be followed by tiredness, but usually anything more than 2 really kills me.  Than I start getting into a terrible mood and feel like my whole body is in heat or just too much is being released, hence the beginning of a new POIS.  I can't wait until this study comes out.

Zoop, thirst is rare in pois (at least as we have seen on this forum; it was mentioned in Waldinger 2002 as well). However it has been one of my main symptoms. The day or some days after "O" I would get immense thirst and could drink 7 liters a day. And spent lots of time in the bathroom. Blank stares form doctors and I was on my request tested for diabetes but negative.

My working theory is next:
Some time after O your adrenals produce (for some reason) too little aldosterone. Aldosterone is a hormone. When you have too little aldosterone, your body can't hold on to sodium, and excecreting it. The sodium passes through your kidneys and exits your body as urine, taking water with it. Then you get thirsty, however when you drink the same thing happens, your body will lose sodium and take water with it, and you will still be thirsty.

This also has to do with the potassium - sodium balance. When you eat food high in potassium (like potatoes or cashew nuts, raisins) the relative amount of sodium will become less so maybe triggering your thirst symptoms. At least I experienced  this thirst too after eating food high in potassium. To make things worse, disturbing potassium-sodium balance makes you feel bad.

I stress this is just my working theory. If you take action on this it's your own responsibility and
it's best to consult a doctor on side effects of the next home remedies:
1) Drink glass of water with added sea salt ( 1/8 to 1 tea spoon in the morning and if needed more during the day). Salt contains sodium, so this restores potassium - sodium balance)
2) Drink licorice tea. As wiki says, licorice affects the endocrine system. Not really sure if it's good for aldosterone, but it's working for me.

This has helped me a lot in the thirst and dehydration issue. I wonder how many pois-sufferers are dehydrated anyway(have dry skin for example) . I got this information by googling on "thirst" and "adrenal fatigue". Also the sea salt and water combo helped in my cravings for food (when I knew that in normal circumstances, I would long have eaten enough and I was still craving and feeling empty). Just one glass of water and some sea salt, and hunger totally gone. Needless to say, I felt much better after the water-sea salt combo, from "just wanting to lie down to wait for terror to stop, to wanting to do things!). This is my experience.

I have thirst a lot of times. With or without POIS. I went to my GP an thought it was diabetes. But the blood result showed nothing. I think it is a side effect of Xyzal, which I take every day. But who knows that POIS worse things.
I have a dry skin too.

Also another weird thing... I've said in my past about POIS being accompanied by a short lasting "good feeling" and than a longer lasting "bad feeling"  like a surge of good hormones every minute followed by down time the rest of the minute.  I've found out that I can partially control this just by not thinking about it.  Usually when I am in that "low", i look for something that will get me back to normal, another adrenaline surge or whatever in my brain, I find that if I try not to concentrate on that and how I feel, I actually feel a lot better.  Without the surge of "good feelings" I look for in my head the bad feelings aren't their.  Or maybe I'm just goingcrazy  [;D]

Hi guys,

It's been a while since I've visted the forum. The last months I refrained from any sexual activity, which I pretty well managed. However, I have a question. If I masturbate for 10 seconds (so without any orgasm), I already get some symtoms. Does this sound to anyone familiar?
I get crazy with this man. Are there any new theories on this matter?
Thanks in advance!

not a new theory, but ill repeat one of my old ones.

i believe the cause of POIS is whatever chemical endorphin is released that provides the "feel good" feeling of sex. Of course in an "O" its released in huge amounts. What this means tho is that just a wee bit of heavy petting can still cause some minor POIS.

Thank you, I'll try it and see the results. Macdo is adapted to POIS, they send too salted potatoes... lol
Maybe it has a link with "cravings for food", I also have it these days. I had ever thought about aldosterone and all that, did a blood test for that and it was normal. But maybe sometimes it's not.
I noticed that when it strikes, the more you drink the more you're thirsty so the best thing to do is to wait. But I'll try your trick.

I've also done a test for diabete, negative of course.

For me it seems that it is only after actual orgasm. I recently had a watery NE which I think is an NE without any semen: this did not produce any symptoms. Then a week later (days ago) I had a full NE with the typical composition and it resulted in symptoms. Maybe these "endorphins" or whatever are released upon semen ejaculation. I agree that it seems like whatever hormone is released either directly or indirectly causes our symptoms.
