Maybe it's possible to do the interview anonymously? Then we only see you silhouette and a deformed female voice. :)

What do you say Lindsey? Perhaps as a second supporting interview, a hidden face. After all, it's all part of the POIS stigma we suffer!!

And for the volunteer(s) it would be an historic event! Historic! We have to go beyond the "typical" sacrifices.

Hi guys,

It's been a while since I've visted the forum. The last months I refrained from any sexual activity, which I pretty well managed. However, I have a question. If I masturbate for 10 seconds (so without any orgasm), I already get some symtoms. Does this sound to anyone familiar?
I get crazy with this man. Are there any new theories on this matter?
Thanks in advance!

not a new theory, but ill repeat one of my old ones.

i believe the cause of POIS is whatever chemical endorphin is released that provides the "feel good" feeling of sex. Of course in an "O" its released in huge amounts. What this means tho is that just a wee bit of heavy petting can still cause some minor POIS.

Plausible for some perhaps, but in many cases, including mine, there is no POIS with pre-sex "feel good": only with orgasm.

Hello,

I sympathize with many of the other guys on this forum. I've had POIS over 20 years and in the last few years it has pretty much destroyed my life because of the long duration and severity of symptoms. Ironically, I'm not sexually active and sadly, haven't been with a woman in many years (I'm 40 now). Whenever I've approached doctors about this, they conclude that the problem is psychological or psychiatric in nature, and have never heard of POIS.

The only things that has even come close to improving my symptoms are:

1. Avoiding loss of semen as much as possible

2. Practicing semen retention (locking of the muscles in the lower abdomen and perineum during an emission to reduce the loss of semen).

3. Taking the following supplements:

-multimineral supplement (with Magnesium)
-vitamin C powder with electrolytes (emergen-c)
-vitamin D
-zinc

So far, the comments on this forum that have interested me the most been those relating to histamine production following orgasm. Has anyone had success in treating symptoms with amino acids purported to lower histamine production?

Thanks,

Alex

Zoop, and alexp, welcome to the POIS thread of The Naked Science Forum!

Here are some POIS resources which may be helpful to you:

Our POIS Information Website, built by "mat780", is here:
http://sites.google.com/site/POISwebsite/

Filling out the POIS survey created by "Counterpoints" can help you to share more POIS information and details with others here, as well as with future outside researchers.
http://pois.olympe-network.com/

Please see "B_Jim"'s POIS Summary of All Cases, here as well as others on the Web. This includes remedies that we have tested, and results.
http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=6576.msg149009#msg149009

"Girlwind" has created an excellent POIS Video:

Our new POIS chatroom (realtime chat). Invite or visit another member(s) there, ANY TIME. We can all get to know each other better:

There are a couple of ways to get any or all of the above 3 studies: (1) if you want a PDF copy, send me a Private Message (PM) with your regular email address (use "AT" instead of "@" ) and I'll send you back the PDF.

Or, if you prefer, (2) I can simply reply with a Private Message (no regular email needed) and provide you with a simple text version embedded in your PM.

To send a Private Message, click on "Messages" at the top of this page. At the Messages page, click on "New Message". From that point on, it works just like posting a message here, except that it only goes to the person(s) you designate.

Remember to put a quote around my name, i.e., "demografx".

In addition to serving our own informational interests, the resources listed above can be useful for you to show our credibility to the medical world - which often shows little understanding and is sometimes skeptical of our condition: POIS has scientific underpinnings and POIS is not "just another psychological problem" related to sex - to be treated by the psychiatric/psychotherapeutic community. All of this information can greatly help you to fight the immediate reaction of some doctors: so just tell them, "IT'S NOT 'ALL IN OUR HEADS'! "

Also, it can be helpful when dealing with medical professionals to point out the successful existence of our rapidly growing forum, which has already been referenced in respectable sources such as the British Medical Journal and wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postorgasmic_illness_syndrome

For over 3 years, our POIS forum has attracted over 200 POIS sufferers worldwide who have posted here, research on an additional 200 sufferers elsewhere on the internet, plus nearly 900,000 page visits. Not bad for a rare malady!

Zoop, and alexp, this post will help you find information about POIS that we have already discussed, by tailoring a Google search to this forum:

SEARCH THE FORUM WITH GOOGLE

We have an overwhelming amount of data: 3 years' worth of posts (over  10,000 posts!) from 150+ Forum members, and an additional 150 POIS sufferers found elsewhere on the Internet by Member B_Jim.

In the Google search box, type
whatever-it-is-you're-interested-in-finding-out[space]POIS[space]site:http://thenakedscientists.com/

for example, I tried
nocturnal emission POIS site:http://thenakedscientists.com/

and 740 results came up for "nocturnal emission" within the Forum.

be careful with spaces (you can use them before the word "site") and no-spaces (everything after the word "site")

Google even provides you results with the Message# for each result. But Message #'s do change, so be patient and look for the approximate Message#.

Yeah! I got he roids (testosterone), was easy to, told him about pois and showed testosterone test with very low result but still in "normal range'.
The only problem is it is compounded at local pharmacy so i hope it is potent.

Demograpx how quickly did you notice testosterone helping you.
and how do you use it.

That makes quite a few of us now!!!

Depending on the dosage, it took a few weeks for it to kick in for me. My doctor wouldn't prescribe it to me even though I was out of the reference range and demonstrated POIS is much worse with low testosterone plus I had the symptoms of low T.

I take 100mg of test-e P/w putting my bio-available testosterone right in the top 3/4's of the range and tbh I haven't had much shrinkage of my testicles, if you were initially low on testosterone and don't have high e2 my guess would be your libido will be through the roof after it's in your system for a while, for the most part POIS really only lasts for 2-3 days before I'm back to being somewhat functional, hope it works out for you!

I noticed a lift in mood immediately. I  waited several weeks to test it on POIS. Then it worked beautifully! That was 2 years ago. I'm still on it.

I put on 3 new 5 milligram patches every day. That's 15 milligrams a day, every day, of Androderm Testosterone Transdermal System.

I still call the manufacturer with questions occasionally. Ask for one of their pharmacists at (973) 355-8300

@alexp I tried anti-histamines, they had no effect also the body developed a tolerance to anti-histamines.

For me 250mg of naproxen (aleve) taken one to two hours before ejaculation stops all my problems. Your story is similar to many of us, it is good that you take vitamins and minerals it's good for the skin and the whole body, nevertheless they don't stop or prevent the problem.

The Post Ejaculatory Illness should not stop you from having sex, stop before you ejaculate. FAKE IT, anyway most women ~60% don't have an orgasm so it's all good, the felling they get from being with some one will make them to stick around.

I have a question for you alexp how you managed to live in the last 20 years? Did it affect any other part of your life? What advice you can give for people like us that are just begging to experience this HELL?

Great Demo!

Tomorrow morning I have to deliver a jar of semen at the hospital so they can check free testosterone. Is it true that you have to be sober before you produce the semen for the research? This means that I can't take Aleve before the O. And that means that I will get sick more. With Aleve I have 30 % less symptoms.
