How do we get samples from the deep sea (+5000 meter)
« on: 23/03/2016 00:39:33 »
Next year 2017-2018 we organize a expedition around deep ocean pollution.
During our trip we will collect surface and deep water samples. We are developing now a trolling device to gather: video, temperature, pressure, sediment and water samples. The last two points are the difficult ones. Any advice is welcome.

- Our main goal is to collect data and trace, the amount of micro plastic and Cesium-137 around the world.
- Our dream is to know more about the deep sea a world under extreme pressure and freezing cold

I have seen people sample seawater using a series of open containers that are lowered into the sea.
On the way up, the cap is secured on different containers at specific water depths, capturing a sample of water at a known depth.

Yes this the way we do it now. With this method we lose imported data decompression sample 100/1 x 1000 meter + during the 1h trip up, the sample warms up (DOW 0-3° surface 20 - 25°). Solution: to do most of the measurements on the bottom? This is new for us! and new gear.
Thanks for thinking with us.
