How did viruses evolve?

Kabelo.M asked the Naked Scientists:
Hi Chris,
I have two questions for you that I believe to be very interesting.
1. Scientists have discovered when & how the world was formed. They estimate it all begun 13.8 billion years ago.
Not much is ever mentioned about how things like viruses came about, after the earth/universe was formed.
According to you what could have lead to the formation of viruses or other microscopic agents leading to infectious diseases to human beings and animals?
2. Given the alarming threat of the Zika virus throughout the world, it has been reported that the type of Aedes aegypti mosquito found in South Africa is least likley to carry the virus. How so? What is so different about the Aedes aegypti in South Africa?
Best regardsKabelo
