What are the causes of climate change?
« on: 10/06/2017 01:42:33 »
Note: This thread was split off from "How is the mass loss of the Sun calculated? " - Mod.

Great discussion! Thank you all ! And I mean it.
Option 1:
"Climate change" indeed is due to sudden increase of CO2  ( and other gases composition ) percentage in the atmosphere caused by human's socio-economic activity resulting in rapid increase of use of fossil fuels by industries.
Question 1: How come that gas ( CO2 in this case ) is transparent one way and less transparent on the way back?

Option 2:
"Climate change" indeed caused by external factors not yet well understood ( or even included into calculation ) by human scientists and measurement technics are providing misleading data or not enough quantifiable data at all. ( Hence my initial Question )..
Question 2: Do we as a Civilization of this Planet make decisions based on FACTS or BELIEFS, and how to make proposed fact RE-VERIFIABLE? ( supported by multiple and independent observation ).

Option 3:
"Climate change"  indeed is a natural fluctuation between cooler "age" and warmer "age" due to yet unknown energy transfers between celestial objects similar to SUN  vs EARTH  . or SUN vs BIG BANG with intermediaries.

Question 3: Do we understand it well purpose of zero sums game?------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question 4 :Do we have well understood the problem ahead?
Question 5 :How do we transfer energy given into advancement of Humanity as from almost static to a well animated activity?

I'll answer this one, because I have an interest in weather prediction. For the others you need to join a more specific thread eg https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=69994.0

The frequency range of infra red radiation is quite wide and the specific frequency depends on the temperature of the source. The sun being very hot produces high energy IR at these frequencies the atmosphere is mainly transparent. That IR heats the ground and is reradiated, but because the ground temperature is lower than that of the sun, the frequency is also lower and at this lower frequency the IR is more readily absorbed by the CO2.

Useful, thanks.
