I'm curious about something. When do you think its okay for a government to lie? For example: On 23 May 1981 the British submarine HMS Sceptre (S104) collided with the Russian sub Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy (K-211). The crew were told to say that they had hit an iceberg. The truth came out when David Forghan, Sceptre's former weapons officer, gave a television interview which was broadcast on 19 September 1991.
In your opinion was is it okay to lie about this incident? Whether the lie was told by the government, the captain or whether you were a crewman who was told to lie?
