The REM-supression in which you are referring to is a symptom of dopamine re-uptake inhibition. The inhibition is causing the dysregulation.

Was the original question, so to explain fully there may be a correlation between REM sleep and dopamine/melatonin, It would be a leap to consider REM affects dopamine, or dopamine affects REM, Dopamine may be a factor, but not the total answer.

I apologize in advance.... but I still don't understand what you're getting at. The REM sleep disturbance he is referring to is caused by re-uptake inhibition which negatively alters the dopaminergic control of the sleep-wake cycle.

Yes, chronic SWS & REM sleep-disorders are definitely known to precede the onset of neurodegenerative disease.

In my case it is definitely a suppression of REM sleep, not an augmentation.
