I never drink tap water.. My parents always buy Volvic or some other water bottles.. We have like 50 bottles in our garage. =/ The taste of tapwater or hard water, tastes a bit of blood? I don't know, maybe its the reaction between oxygen and the metal pipes (maybe iron), which cause the weird taste. The metals in our blood is iron, which is reacted with oxygen to create the red colour. I was thinking the same with the tap water..

did you know most bottled water sold inthe US is from municipal sources! municipal sources are...tap water, yes they pay $2 for bottled tap water.

LOL! Why dont they just drink from tap water... Instead of buying them.. Aren't Europe bottles from like the French Alps and Volcanos?

not always, coke and pepsi make bottles water that too is tap water...or was any way. with all bottled water you need to check the fine print. a heck of a lot is just plain old tap water.

oh but bottled water is much cleaner and germ free - well, no it's not. (assuming its not tap water) it still contains bugs and possibly more that tap water, safety guidelines are slacker with bottled water than tap.

just use tap water, its safer, cheaper and you dont fill landfills with plastic bottles.

Well, it depends a lot on where you live.  My well water also has a lot of sulfur in it and tastes pretty bad.  I also lived in Arizona for a few years where the water is pretty bad.  The city of Mesa tells its residents to just put a little lemon in it.  The water there is so bad, there are water stores on pretty much every corner, selling RO water by the gallon (20-25 cents/gallon).  Of course, they sell more than just water, but not much more.  They also sell water cooler supplies (coolers and bottles) and ice cream and candy.  Their primary business is to sell water, though

My water is crap, lots of iron & sulphur.  The fine print on my bottle says:  "purified by reverse osmosis or distillation and enhanced with a balance of minerals for taste."

well i would say that it is municipal water that has been "cleaned", minerals for taste! do you know the name of the company that produces the water? and the name of the water? spring fresh ar whatever.

you could just buy yourself a filter, you know......oh my i sound like your dad, i must be getting old.

Our family goes through about a case per day (24 16oz bottles).......  I do feel guilty about all the plastic bottles. 

24 bottles a day! 8,760 bottles a year. i hope you recycle them, my girl...........sorry dad mode off.

It says nothing about spring water, so I'm assuming it is indeed from a municipal source.  I actually do have a water softener.  It's crap too!  Seems to have eliminated the iron problem, but we still have lots of sulphur. We had to disconnect it today as a matter of fact because it caused our well to stop working and we were with out water for several hours.

And yes, DAD...LOL we do recycle.  As many bottles as we go through, it would be environmentally irresponsible not to. []

so, you pay for your water through some form of local taxation. then some company with a big tap, uses the same water and filters it and you then buy the water you have already paid for from them!

oh, and a problem with those that drink "natural sping water" is that it does not contain flouride and so leads to oral problems.

i was thinking more of home filtration than softener. not too sure on the costs, will look it up for you at some point...if you wish?

No, we don't pay for water.  We have a private well.  However, if we did have the city water, we would definately still buy bottled.  The city water here does not have flouride and is full of chlorine.

I'm not really clear on what kind of filtration you're talking about.  I'm not pleased at all with what we have, so I am looking to find something better.

when i say "you" buy the water you have already paid for i mean this in the broad sense:

people who buy bottled water because it's fashionable, and think munisipal water is bad for you or just tastes bad. they are the ones who should know better.

as for your situation with the well. then buying water in is your best option, i am pretty sure you  can use filtration as opposed to softening at a domestic level. i will have a look around and see what i can find.
