Lol. That's what I thought.. From all perspectives, it's just a "Dead" language. My school teaches Latin, and you can't stop learning unless your in the lower set.. But, I find Latin fun.. Better than French [

I am sure just the act of learning latin must have cognitive advantages !

Still stuck with those Indoeuropean languages - why not branch out into one of the Finno-Ugric languages (although I believe DoctorBeaver would probably prefer you learnt Swahili [

OOOOH that might be fun.. but french is so romantic.. a little like italian.. soumnds so wonderful.. even Neils butchered version.. LOL He butchers it so well that me thinks he must be very fluent in the langauge to do such a smashing job butchering it!! LOL Ain't that right Neily??? LOL..LOL

Well, yes, they are both Romatic (or Romance) languages - i.e. they are both derived from Latin, the language of the Romans.

The reason why we think of romance to do with love stories was because in the 11th and 12th centuries, the troubadours of southern France wrote and sang a lot of love songs in Occitan/Provençal is a romance language (in many ways purer than French or Spanish, although the territory of Occitan covers parts of Italy, Provençal in France, and some of Spain, but the largest part is covered by Provençal).

George that sounds very interesting.. I wonder how many of the songs had been saved and written down from those times I would love to read them! It sounds like a really beautiful history!

LOL Cds and tapes LOL LOL...I was thingiing more like thing recorded with a writing instument such as ink and a feather , or charcole or some such source use for ealy scribbing..LOL scroll recording Hand written writings that is.. LOL I forget how old you are did you say 870 years old somewhere around here..LOL I bet you have some old scroll work tucked away from your chidhood so many years ago!! LOL

You could have started a German language thread - German is not a Romantic language (come to that, since English is a Germanic language, although with a lot of non-german influence, so English too is not a romantic language).
