Does water prevent a smack from causing a bruise?
« on: 24/04/2007 21:42:47 »
I've heard that in schools, when they used to have the cane, some teachers put water on the canes, and then smacked the kids on the leg or something, so that no bruise showed up, only pain was felt. The teachers did this so that the children can't tell on their parents that they were caned.

I'm not sure if this is true, but if it is, why would water make no bruises appear?

As a firm believer in empirical study I will tomorrow administer the cane to my son ( I will say it's your fault seany) ..I will report back here the results !

Seriously,

I can only see that perhaps the water aids to ever so slightly dissipate the impact from a small area to a slightly larger one...but I can't see any real truth in it myself

I think you need all 3 kids. The first as a control subject that you don't hit. The second you whack with a dry cane, and the third with a wet cane. Remember tn take notes and put experimemt at thd top of the notes just in case social services pop round.

I can't see it stopping brusises but perhaps if the cane is lubricated it is les likely to break the skin?

Tip:

Whatever you do, don't say "that didn't hurt"

I think it may be a cultural thing as water is sometimes poured on swords used for beheadings.

I said that twice in my life..once when my grandma swatted my butt for saying a hateful things to her.. I was 6 and not so smart!

Then once to me step Dad....... could barely walk for weeks....never said it again... but every time he beat on me he would remind me about what I said..and make sure I never forgot.
