like the title says. are all sperm the same, carrying the same information. Would it matter which sperm got to the egg first?

It matters a great deal. Each sperm is carrying half your DNA, but each is a different half (not a case that two halves make a whole, but rather they each have a different permutation of all of the genes, having taken one of other copy of each gene, but in some cases it is some bits of your mother's genes, and some of your fathers, in other cases different bits of your fathers and some other different bits of your mothers).
Whether for this reason, or for other reasons, the sperms also have individual characteristics - some are fast swimmers, and will get to the egg first - but if the egg is not ready for it, it has wasted its effort - while others are slower plodders who will get to the egg later.

Also, half the sperm carry an X chromosome, and half a Y, so which sperm gets there first determines the sex of the offspring!
