Gee Paul, have you never seen a map of the oil fields of Siberia? They are in both forest and tundra regions. And I spent too many nights not being able to sleep because of the tree frogs in the forests of east Texas and Louisiana.

I was once nearly killed by a logging truck. It was going to fast around a sharp curve and the huge tree trunks burst the chains and metal uprights holding them on the bed. The centrifugal force of the truck in the turn caused all of the load to get flung over outside lane of the cure where the oncoming traffic was approaching. I was driving the "oncoming traffic." Only my rally driver training and experience from several races at Le Mans, which kicked in automatically, saved me.

And let us not forget the tropics. The Niger Delta is forested, all of the S.E. Asian oil found on land is in rain forest, and a significant amount of the world petroleum supply is found under the oceans. Columbia & Peru's Amazonian basin is the site of many oil fields.

JimBob, i was thinking about texas...for some reason...and it just popped in to my head about oil wells, without thinking i just posted.

moments later, i realised how dumb i was but thought someone would come along with some nice and interesting facts. so i left it.

that someone, was you. with the added bonus of some personal tale to boot.

    No problemo, Paul

For later generations of people and cyborgs to read this site, my post will make no sense if it is not known that I have worked as a scientist in the oil & gas business for quite a long time.

Yes, back in the dark ages when I was young and God still wore knee pants, i.e., young 'un, when he was not old enough to wear long pants yet.   [:P]
