I live on a major air route quite close to Detling and am used to seeing the sky covered in contrails but at the moment it is strangely clear.
We are experiencing a very dry spring with scarcely a spot of rain all month and none promised until May is there any correlation ?

Unlikely to be the primary cause at present. The Continental anticyclone system seems to have arrived a little earlier and more persistent than in recent years, giving us cold, dry northeast winds, clear skies and frosty nights, whence the old gardener's motto "cast ne'er a clout 'til May be out" - but whether that refers to may blossom  appearing or the end of the month depends on your latitude and longitude.

Contrails can nucleate cirrus clouds which reduce diurnal temperature fluctuations, but these are of two distinct genera: cirrus from the west generally presages an Atlantic depression with plenty of rain, but cirrus from the east or north rarely brings any low-level activity apart from dust and smoke haze.   

Note: the above is only true of the British Isles - continental weather is a whole different ball game!

Another few bits, this one disagrees with me, apparently due to global warming its weakening and disrupting the gulf stream,  but still, not everyones perfect.

Slowly a new jet will spawn from the pole and sink, lowering the cold air from higher in the atmosphere sinking toward the equator which will cool also.  This will however mean that the moisture (very very cold)in the higher air will also cool and prectipitate out, due to greater pressure at the same temperature, thus meaning snow in june.

Only after fossil fuels dry up, and then its only a possibility. Dependant on the ammount of cooling and the ammount of glaciation that takes place.

As you know ice reflects sunilght, so perpetuating the glaciation that takes place, from Yale downt yew neuw!
