There is a small hill on the way to school on the road.. It's like a bridge, but its a little bump, quite steep actually, but small.

However, I was thinking at that time, whether it is possible for a long vehicle, such as a lorry or bus to go over that hill?

Where I am from this is called getting high-centered. I.E., the center of the vehicle gets stuck on the higher ground.

The way getting high-centered occurs is this: the clearance of the vehicle is less than the height of the obstacle. When the momentum of the car (bus) carries it onto the hill but isn't enough to keep it going over this obstruction, you are stuck.

I have been in this situation several times when I am out in the countryside on some of the bad roads. It also occurs on sandy roads when the sand builds up in the middle of the road.

If your lucky, the obstruction is made of dirt or sand. Then you need to get out, get a shovel and dig your way out. I still have my shovel here in the flat I occupy.

If this sad event happens and you are on solid rock, expect a large repair bill. You tear up the underside of your car, truck, bus or wheelchair....

Hey this is the Rig My husband drove for years notice the placement of all the wheels, this prevents High centering in some cases, but he always said if the space between the wheels was too far and the raised area was taller the the trailer floor bottom it would be a problem!

Yup, even that could still get stuck.. There are tiny gaps in between the wheels still.. *Sigh*

well i thought you had it, George. But, Seany has gone and changed the measurements of the "hill". With the new measurements, i would say that the bus will not make it and therefore get stuck.


1m tall, 2m wide. That is a semi-circle, and i don't think the bus will get over it. It would make a good jump on a bicycle though.
