I looks like a river has come to the surface, the picture is rather noisy as it is at the limit of my range and I cannot get accurate temperature readings but this is one of the strangest pictures i have ever seen

This Picture it looks like a wide river has formed from melt water

You cannot see river resolution in photos that large.

Penguins are flapping about and the polar bears are chasing them ?

I can't tell if the picture is the size of a flower garden or the size of a county

It's just as well that penguins and polar bears are poles apart - otherwise one of these environmental icons would eat the other...

I look every day when the satellite pass is suitable but have never seen this again.
I have seen ground level pictures of massive melt water flow and read of temperatures of 30°C at latitude 60° for a short while
The picture is about 1000km high and large rivers such as those in Russia show up well

It's just as well that penguins and polar bears are poles apart - otherwise one of these environmental icons would eat the other...

Its pretty much the bottom half so that river is 50km wide, like the mouth of the amazon, but for far longer at a higher gradient.

I think this must be a common occurrence during the artic summer when you get 24 hrs daylight, on todays picture you can see the melt water cutting into the see ice

I was thinking the same, notice how the slightly pink band stretches out to sea.

There are plenty of ground level pictures on the internet of these massive melt water flows if you hunt for them, cloud is very easily confirmed on satellite pictures by its low temperature

Yes but its 50 km wide river flowing for 1000 km from a height of 3000m, thats 3 in 1000. The thames drops 0.3 in a 1000 km
