I live in the UK - is it still safe for me to go to the shop?
« on: 15/10/2020 19:33:05 »
Here's a question that came to us from Sonja, from the UK:

I am in the 'shielding' group, my parents are in the 'vulnerable' group (age 80), and we live together. We have barely left the house since the original lockdown - for us that's 20 March. We have had nobody in the house since March 15 and only one other in our bubble who was socially distanced outside. When we finally did go to a shop, we went as soon as it opened and we used masks, visors, disposable gloves, hand sanitisers, disinfected our shoes, everything we possibly could to keep ourselves as safe as possible (the shopping was all disinfected or left for several days).  We went back into lockdown a month ago when cases were rising.

In your opinion is it safe for us to go to a shop when it opens? We have avoided during the day in case the virus was in the air. Even just to go out shopping every fortnight to give us that element of independence back would be something. We honestly do not know what to do as are terrified of catching it & wiping out the whole household. Any advice you could give would be very much appreciated.

Can anyone help?

Sadly I think it is as risky to go out now as it ever was. When I locked down, I thought that woulg be it for the next 15 months. Can you findsome safe places to go walking? If you haven't been out in the sun much then speak to your GP about vitamin D.
