Should we be wearing full face visors?
« on: 04/01/2021 13:37:48 »
Robert says:

Some background to this question: during the first wave, like many others, I donated thousands of full-face visors to schools and care homes in my local area. I am aware that FFVs lose effectiveness in static air environments, but can be highly effective in reducing transmission by touch, especially when the wearer develops a habit of frequently adjusting their mask.

As it's clear that the higher transmissibility is causing a sharp rise even in areas that have been largely following the existing rules, doesn't this confirm that those rules are insufficient? During the first wave when PPE was in desperately short supply, the public were advised against wearing full-face visors, but now they are readily available. Wouldn't it make sense for the public to wear a full-face visor in addition to a mask?

What do you think?

The visor will protect you from droplet splatter and inhibit your exhalate to some extent, but without a total quarantine (a) the virus continues to evolve into ever more transmissible forms (Darwin!) and (b) the number of potential sources increases every day, so no matter what you do to mitigate the risk of infection, the numbers increase.

Fortunately it seems that the Parliamentary Select Committee has, 11 months, 2,700,000 longterm invalids and 75,000 avoidable deaths too late, woken up to the bloody obvious, and is in now favor of national quarantine.

It would be a good idea if they made a pub visor which allowed the wearer to drink.
