The significance is that it shows that very rapid climate change is inevitable, not anthropogenic.  So instead of blaming the rich for it and doing nothing, we should be making preparations to live with it.

Evidence can harm your preconceptions!
Evidence that glaciers are retreating.
Well that's consistent with the world warming up at the moment.
But most of us don't live in the arctic so what matters is the mean temperature of the world.
So, pointing out that a small (though interesting) bit of the world was warmer 500 years ago doesn't really detract from  this point, in response to which you raised it/.

It is clear that there is damage that we have caused ourselves,

I believe the land of siberia will become habitable, this is a huge gain compared to the marginal coast that will be lost. World wide many countries will not even notice a change, other than pineapples in Scotland.

I believe it has a population of about 33 million and is therefore already obviously habitable.
I also believe that Petrochemicals doesn't know what he is on about...
But he's welcome to move to Russia.

Many large cities worldwide are built near sea ports or coastal rivers.
- Higher temperatures means expansion of ocean volume, and increasing sea levels
- That will increase the number of times per year that storm surges and/or high tides overwhelm coastal protection, and cause flooding of city facilities.
- sometimes sea level rise is exacerbated by pumping of groundwater for human consumption, causing a fall in land levels.
- Some cities are already retreating from the coast

Considering that residential buildings have a 60 year design life and infrastructure 100, sea level rise will be outpaced by redevelopment. Mankind will adapt to the changes in the same way we adapted to shoreline retreat.

just note as gepengineering for some time there is VLF approach for closing of the ozone hole, and also chemitrail dispersal of aerosols that scientists are hoping will have effect on this ...

Alex says:

There is a lot of talk about global warming and how catastrophic it will be. I have heard a major problem is the earth's poles are heating up too rapidly, and if this heating up could be delayed a month or so it would solve a lot of problems. If this is the case then to my mind the solution is simple - put an umbrella in space over the pole and move it from pole to pole each weather cycle using ionic positioning rockets. The amount of heat from the sun could be controlled by standing the umbrella on end allowing more heat from the sun as required. As this technology develops it could also be used to control hurricanes and typhoons by heating or cooling areas around them allowing them to disapte safely at sea.

What do you think?

I'd love to see us develop heat shield technology that could be used to terraform Venus.  And what better way to start than developing technology for use here on Earth.

However, there are a few caveats.  First of all, it would have to be enormous.  Say 100x100 miles = 10,000 square miles, and that would only cover a portion of the pole.  One wouldn't necessarily want full shade, but rather than trying to develop large partial shade, perhaps a swarm of small full shades.

The other issue is that a geostationary orbit can only be over the equator.  Any polar orbit would have to orbit around the earth, and only spend part of the time above the pole.  Perhaps the better place would be an L1 Lagrange Point.  But, that would also impact the whole earth, although perhaps a solar sail could be used to locate it somewhat.

The other issue we have here is unintended consequences of geoengineering.  We need sunlight to grow crops.  Without sunlight, we all die.  Even the polar regions have very dynamic climates of bitter cold winters and warming in the spring and summer.

A few years ago I considered advocating putting a series of  buoys and drag chains between Greenland and Svalbard with the idea of not stopping the flushing ice from the Arctic down along the Greenland coast and into the Atlantic, but simply slowing down the movement which should help keep more multi-year pack ice in the North.

Ultimately I decided that I couldn't predict how that would impact other parts of the climate.  Would it impact the Greenland Glaciers?  Would it impact the North Atlantic temperatures?  I had no idea how to ascertain whether such an approach would be a net positive.  I still think it would be possible to slow the flow of ice southward, but can't say if that is desirable.

"what better way".
Well, how about we stop screwing up the planet we are on and- if you like- test terraforming ideas for Venus on Venus.

I live on the planet where the hole in the ozone layer stated to repair itself because we stopped dumping CFCs into the air.
Quoting a different discussion forum isn't very convincing evidence.
For all we know, it's just you posting the same nonsense in two places.

Chemtrails are a laughable conspiracy theory too.

I would prefer not to wait till politics listen to scientists. Politics will not change fast enough. But each of us can make a step to slow climate change every day. Use your bike more often, travel by train, just buy second hand stuff and so on. If we all wait untill things change because we not feel responsible, soon there will not be anything to wait for  :-\
