   Other forums would have removed the thread or moved it to their "Just Chat" or "Just Offensive" section.

   If you're going to answer a question like this, then sure you can have some humour but you should do it in the general background of discussing science.
     There are nocturnal / diurnal hormone flucations, there can be better times of the day for fertility.  There may be psychological effects etc. etc.

Hi again.

   That's a day over.   It's probably time to say something to restore some balance.

1.   There are other forums where the moderators (or other management staff) would have edited a post that made a complaint like the one earlier.   That might have been total removal but it could have been enough editing to take the edge off the comments.  There would be excuses for such editing including removal of spam (another forum was mentioned for example) and maintaining safety (of their staff and/or of the poster since my location was mentioned  - the British isles).
     The right of the moderators is clearly set out in the Forum acceptable usage policy:

     A moderator may choose, where they feel it appropriate for the good order of the forum, that they should themselves edit or delete a post submitted by a forum user.....
     In all matters, the moderators' judgement is final.

   So, anyway, the moderators (or other staff) haven't altered the original comments I made and that is, in my opinion, a considerable credit to them.

2.   The moderators are merely volunteers trying their best, and while we will do the best we can, we cannot be everywhere all of the time, and we cannot get everything right all of the time, so we would appreciate your understanding if maybe things don't happen with the perfection you might desire.

3.     This forum is considerably more tolerant (of all sorts of things) than most other scientific forums and this is, in my opinion, a significant point in favour of this forum.

4.     I would be grateful if these points could be kept in mind for the future but that is all:

Section 3.  Keep it family friendly

This site is intended to promote science for all, from 6 year old kids to people who are retired.  Please make sure that whatever you post is suitable for young children, or even old fuddy duddies.  You may be very liberal and open minded, but it does not mean that all the other forum users will be just as liberal and open minded, or in the case of young children, that their parents would be. Please bear this in mind when you post material to the forum.

None of this should prevent you from discussing delicate subjects (e.g. matters pertaining to human sexuality), but it should inform you as to the tone you should take when discussing such matters, or the kind of jokes you might reasonably make on the forum.

We get tired of it too and I think of him as crass rather than cute. As Alan says, we are a liberal forum and that has upsides and downsides, but if a post exceeds good taste it really doesn’t help to move it to a different section - if it’s wrong here, it’s wrong there.
Asked in a different way the topic asks a valid question for this section.

This poster has raised the good taste question in my mind a number of times, so I’ll join Alan in issuing a public warning, and probably a private one, to tone it down.
