That's a potentially hazardous situation, Colin2B. Pyrolysis of ptfe can give rise to perfluoroisobutylene, a particularly dangerous substance. I sincerely hope you meant the pyrolysis of the spammer and not his cookware. Spam: a nutritious but unappealing pork product-no use to me as i'm vegan. Bottom line, i'm bored.

It was indeed the spammer.
I am aware of the dangers of ptfe, having been taught to keep a soldering iron away from such insulation.
In my opinion spam is best fried or frittered, or sung about - not that you wanted to know that!

I wouldn't worry about a soldering iron, unless your iron is akin to a thermic lance. As I am sure you are aware, ptfe insulated wire is difficult to strip as it tends to stretch with a regular stripper. I have often tried to soften it by holding the iron tip against the insulation for 30 seconds but it has always been useless: at most a small depression occurs but no overall softening. Ptfe doesn't melt as such and behaves like a thixotropic gel when hot enough, any temperature above this point could be a hazard.
