HELP! LATEX isn't working.
« on: 17/11/2022 19:00:00 »
Hi.

How do I get the symbol for an inexact differential?    I want a   symbol    d     with a bar through it.
Example:   this is  deef1d5639228d46566d18b2b61131be.gif     and   this is   b71d93df6fd82aa52133bb049b6e246b.gif   which is "h bar".    I  want  a  "d bar"   please.

Google is telling me various options.    Here's an extract from Wikipedia....

Quote
In LaTeX the command "\rlap{\textrm{d}}{\bar{\phantom{w}}}" is an approximation or simply "\dj" for a dyet character, which needs the T1 encoding.

None of that works,   I'm guessing it's because the implementation of LATEX on this forum isn't set to use the T1 encoding.

Another option is to define a symbol with code like this:
Code: [Select]
\def\dbar{{\mathchar’26\mkern-12mu d}}   and then you can call that code with  \dbar   whenever you need it.   That doesn't work because the LATEX implementation on the forum doesn't seem to tolerate any such special routines being defined.

Help!   If you can, please.

Best Wishes.

Hi.

7bfda566aec79c7a5eceaafa7ed81a2f.gif

That's what I get from LaTEX on this forum   using  /dj.    How did you get a "d bar" ?
I'm guessing you inserted a unicode character straight onto the forum?
Unicode character   U+0125 ?   Possibly copied and pasted from something like the windows charmap application?

I could possibly use that even with LaTEX  but I'd have to stop the tex code block,  insert the special character just directly onto the forum and then immediately resume the tex code block.    Unless I get the italics and typefont looking similar then everything will still look odd.
None-the-less it's a useable workaround.    Thank you very much.

Best Wishes.

Eternal...i Wish i was 1% as Smart as you Assume i am...lol.
🦧

I just Googled " dbar "...

The Symbol came up...

I Simply ' Copied ' the Symbol...
& ' Pasted ' it as it was inside my post..
& Surprisingly the Post went thru flawlessly & the Forum SoftWare accepted the " Copy & Paste " .

P.S. - There used to be a Site Administrator by the name of
" CliffordK " on the Forum.
He would be Knowing the Answer, For Sure!

This time, it didn't go thru..
