Make some osmium tetroxide of course! Actually no, don't do this , i'm only joking. Osmium tetroxide is a particularly nasty substance. Personally i'd prefer some rhodium or ruthenium for making useful catalysts.

I'd sell it.
I know in the UK a person can regift without violating societal/social norms. Across the pond, it's considered rude.

It’s considered rude here as well, but people on both side do it.

If someone gives you money, are you not allowed to spend it?
Do precious metals (as bullion rather than jewellery) count as money?

I think you are using 2 different nuances of gift.
As Alan and BC point out a gift of money, bullion, shares etc is very different from a personally selected gift to a special person.

Or in the case of some material gifts to royalty, put it in a public museum or zoo.  Not sure a lump of Os would attract many visitors.

Unfortunately, I do not have sufficient knowledge and confidence to make osmium tetroxide or something like that) Therefore, I would just give it to someone who knows what to do with it better than me)
