Hi.

    The interface for making replies to forum posts used to have a spell check button.  It seems to have gone.
Why and is it coming back?   Please.
    It wasn't great and often favoured USA spellings but it was something.   You don't realise what you had until it's gone.

I didn't realize there ever was one. Maybe a mobile interface, something I've never used?
I've always had, in any window, web browser or not, the little red underlines (and green for grammar) for flagged offenses. Kind of annoying if you're trying to code, but I do most of my coding in Cygwin which doesn't do spell checking in any way.

This American has bolded your spelling *error* above.    My spell checker has been offended by 'bolded', so go figure.

   I would have thought you have some third-party grammar and spell check add-on installed on your computer.   My system is lean.

There is a spell check function active at the moment. On a different thread 5mins ago it corrected my sloppy spelling.

Thanks for the reply and I'm glad it's working for you @paul cotter .    Sadly, it's still not working for me.   I've tried another web browser but still no [Spell Check]  button appears.

No voluntary spell check via Microsoft Edge. I get flags for unrecognised words but nothing more, and I don't recall ever being offered it.

Hi.                MORE PROBLEMS!   

1.    Now the LaTEX rendering has gone down.

This should be an integral  from x=1 to x=10  of  1/x   dx :



What is happening to the website?   How are we to get mathematical symbols now?

2.  Spell Check is not a figment of my imaginaton!

I don't recall ever being offered it.

   The proof of it's (former) existance is in the screenshots in post #2.   Honestly I can assure you it was there and now it isn't.

One bonus is that you can now check your spellings, so we expect nothing other than perfectly composed posts from now on!

3.   Delays and Unresponsiveness:
   Response times have greatly increased recently.  Especially around 4 a.m  British Time.   Is someone performing maintenance or adjustment to the site?

The spell check facility is still missing.
LaTeX is still broken.
This is LaTeX  obtained by pressing a button on the user interface:

   Which does display properly but Do NOT be deceived into thinking it's working perfectly.    Edit that to be a sum over the index k  instead of i  and then it's broken:


 
Out of interest can someone, using their own computer and log-in details just type (or use the "copy" and then "paste" which is easier) the following into a reply (on this thread)  to see how this displays for them, please.

That should be a summation of the term 3k  over indices k=1 to n.    If you're not happy with LaTeX then don't do this - it's never sensible to type some code that someone else has suggested into your computer, you don't know what it will do.   However, I'm optimistic that someone is familiar enough with LaTeX and will accept that this bit of code should only do what I've claimed  - display some mathematics in the post.

What I'm keen to know is whether the LaTeX support for mathematical notation is broken just for me or for everyone.

Hi again,

   There seem to be problems with old forum posts.   Things that were displaying perfectly well are not now.  I'm just going to stop asking what's happening.

    Whatever happens next,  thank you to everyone who has spent some time here, especially all the moderators and everyone else on the staff.
    You did some good stuff and helped a few people like me learn some things and have some discussions rather than going out in the streets and being a vandal.

I have NEVER seen the " Most Online Today " values less than 300, 500 or 700+
For some ODD reason, it's showing up as 7(only)
