This is another cause gaining support. If cloth diapers are better for Earth, it can't be by much when you consider all the energy it takes washers and dryers to daily deep clean them. (You cannot wash them any other way, because we're talking about urine and fecal matter here).

Cold wash and sun dry. Or better, teach the little bugger to control his bowel movements.

I don't think our planet needs a diaper, cloth or otherwise.

The damage the child will do to the environment during the rest of his life is several orders of magnitude greater than the difference between putting his poo in the dustbin (disposables) or down the toilet (cloth).

The answer to all our problems (and those of every other species) is fewer children.

Alan, do you find the cloth ones more comfortable?

I occasionally fly as safety pilot for a medically fragile friend who has been recommended astronaut diapers (disposable). I'll ask him.

Some gliders are fitted with "the other microphone" - looks like an oxygen mask but goes to a vacuum venturi rather than a pressure regulator - because it gets very cold on a long flight, but small powered aircraft generally have cabin heat and rarely fly for more than 4 hours between refuelling/bladder voiding stops.
