I don't understand how this works, why is the air that gets drawn in depleted in oxygen?

How is it any different to drawing the fire by injecting the exhaust of a steam engine into the chimney?

I would say it is nondifferent to blowing a fire out, increacing the airflow to the point of cooling the ignitiable fumes no longer reach the flame temperature, the water helps cool the vapour to stop the chimney effect. If you had a vacuum fan sucking smoke whilst you added water mist to it the fire would not create as much heat as it where prior the fan and no where near as much heat as it would with a chimney draught , thus the fire would be loosing energy to the point it was no longer self sustaining as the feedback dropped. With no other flame source the fire would be stopped, but for how long is a different matter.

OP
Sorry but it seems to make No Sense to me.
Maybe i am incapable of grasping/understanding this Specific firefighting technology.
All i saw was a bunch of dudes put a water nozzle around the window, in the Wrong direction.
Perhaps it sucks out the hot air n decreases the inside pressure & temperature.
Wonder why a simple exhaust fan wasn't Utilized?
ps - anyways the Source is X(twatter)
anythings possible
&
nothings impossible.
