Why heroes?

I've learned that there are plenty of stupid people in the world. It seems that heroes have to deal with stupidity a lot, and that might explain why people don't want to be heroes.

Are there any laws of stupidity? It seems that one of them might be, if you want to be a hero, don't go looking for more people who do too. What you find instead is some wannabe heroes who really want to be little girls at a tea party. If you need evidence, watch some Jason Statham movies.

The subject of self-improvement for instance. The gym, the sauna, the inner peace and relaxation breathing. All the stuff that improves people if they practice. But, of course, the laws of stupidity kick in, and rather than a thing that the individual tries to do, it becomes a topic of discussion at the latest tea party. Everyone wants some cake.

Such a seeker of truth as to the question: How do I improve, myself or whatever it is everyone tells me I can, will find endless advice, so much advice they may start to believe the search is for such advice, and it's an advice-gathering process.

But, of course, it's no such thing. Really the best advice about all the advice is, try to ignore it. And then you will find you need to ignore the objections to your attempts to ignore the advice--a corollary of the law in effect. At the time.

It's enough to make a seeker think about joining a biker gang. At least their tea parties have real girls.

p.s. fortunately any desire on my part would have been met with more laughter because I am seriously not biker material. However that kind of opportunity floated past a few times, and although I don't really like people like that, I have been to the odd party and seen what they do to have fun. I have to say they are a lot less inhibited about it than the normal people there. The trick is to not look at all threatening, and look at them like you understand them.
So yeah, I can get away with it.

There is actually a theory of stupidity. It isn't like one where you use capital letters, or not yet.

Anyhoo, one example of stupid behaviour in our species is the existence of stupid games and sports. Synchronised swimming anyone?
Perhaps golf, a cunning invention of the Irish who just might be the smartest people on the planet as well; the idea even, of whacking a little ball with a stick around a paddock might have taken a while to develop into a contest between mates. I wonder how much Irish whiskey went into the deal.

So now people spend great big wads on the gear, the subscriptions, the trainers.
And the courses themselves represent possibly the dumbest aspect of this stupid activity, the cost of their upkeep and the waste of resources, land that could have houses on it, or farms is being reserved for men and women who enjoy playing the dumbest game in the world.

Why? Why is it enjoyable and why is so much invested in that, and the game itself. Is there something wrong with us?
I've enjoyed it myself, so I suppose I've seen it's cathartic benefits. It allows a person to ask themselves, why am I doing this quite stupid thing, although I'm getting exercise I can do that by just walking around, I see that leaves the possibility that it's about not doing something smart, as such! The whole thing's about seeing how much fun doing something stupid is!!? . . .

Those bloody Irish, it's probably why they make such good whiskey.

I hate veering into politics. It's hard not to notice the meltdown in the former English colonies, across the old ditch there.

But notice a sort of answer as to the question, how dumb do you need to be to play golf, I think we have a winner.
