Will phone cable interfere wth ethernet cable?
« on: 04/08/2025 18:15:40 »
I hope I'm not being too cheeky here.but this is the most likely place I can think of to get reliable advice. My plan is to run one ethernet cable from hub to PC... no problem. Then I want to run a second ethernet cable from the hub to the bedroom for the laptop. The most convenient way to do this would be to use the trunking which the phone cable uses; both phone outlet to hub and outlet part way back to where the line comes into the house. Will this be OK or will the signal in the phone cable interfere with the signal in ethernet cable (and visa versa)

I very much doubt the phone line would interfere with the data cable but the phone, if it is a regular analogue landline might pick up some noise from the data line. Using screened cable for the phone line would be the way to go.

Anything higher than Cat 4 cable will have a "shielded" version available, rather like a coaxial TV cable. Ground one end of the shield and you shouldn't be plagued by interference.
