I'm mainly pc based and use Vst instruments although I have just designed and built some small hardware "noise" synths for friends.

Wow !!..good work TMM !!!

Ok..I do piano,
have  yammy keyboard
A clarinet in the loft
and dabbled with the trumpet too
(I can't read music)

Did a few compositions using cakewalk about ten years ago...(give or take a year or two)
I think I should have been a percussionist cos I'm always tapping my fingers and tap dancing my feet !

Nowadays I mostly listen.....luff my Hi Fi !!

I once had a DX9.....I think it was the first digital synth..released about 1983/4.....you had to load the instruments down via cassette !!.....Actually..the Doctor has one of these don't he?..I think the DX7 soon followed

The DX9 is the DX7's little brother. As far as I know the DX7 came first. To be honest, the DX9 isn't that much cop; the DX7 is a much better instrument.

I've got a PC software interface for my DX7 because it's not easy to figure out all the operators and algorithms just using the instrument's control panel. I've also got Grey Matter's E expansion kit which adds over 300 patch locations & patch layering (the basic instrument can't do layering).

Isn't it unusual to bring out the big brother first ?..I know the DX7 does not have a cassette data input yes ?,...and in every measurable way is far far more sophisticated machine !!

However...as a youngy...back in 1983...it was tuf enuff to find the £900 ($1800) to pay for the DX9..!!

Not really. The DX7 was, and still is, very hard to use without PC software - which wasn't available when it was introduced. It was almost impossible to get any sounds apart from the pre-programmed ones.

The DX9 is a lot easier. But the sound has suffered as a result.

While we are talking about Music could some tell me what song this is? The lyrics go somthing like--Girl I wanna be with you. That's all I remeber HAHA not much help but oh well. Here is the link to the video. (gives you a peek at my guitars too!)http://s155.photobucket.com/albums/s319/KraneDiggity/?action=view&current=e3c73f4f.flv I must say that if it sounds BAD its because I was tired and the laptop microphone and speakers stink and I learned it by ear. Come on already upload its only a few pictures and 20 seconds of music. LoL. There it uploaded!

Well, I've had piles for quite some time; but antiquated?  [???]

And why would I boot a museum when the brats are so much more convenient?
