They are Fairy Circles, silly! As a biologist (double-major)I learned about mycology. I know but I have answered too many questions today - sorry.Well - heck.Look at the underside of your Portobello mushroom. Around the outside of the "umbrella" there are little empty "pockets" that contained the spores of the mushroom. These spores were ejected forcibly when the mushroom was still upright so it threw the spores out so they landed in a circle; therefore - Mushroom Circles.
The bill is in the mail
Iv'e worked it out! Neil is a computer exe file programmed to spore 24/7 to provide everyone with lots to think about and plenty to keep our excited fungus tapping on these infernal moulded keys. Which leaves mushroom for savouring and in doing so prevents us from decomposing his delightful questions and avoiding any chance of decay in the Naked Scientists wonderful forum.
