i won a goldfish today at the fair. his name is bob. he's very cute. but here's my question... if i put him in with my blue beta fish, will they get along ok, and can they eat the same food?

Betta are tropical, goldfish are cold-water. How are you keeping your betta?

he is in a betta aquarium from the pet store... it doesn't have a heater or anything... it's just a little basic tank with a plant...

If it's a male betta he'll probably think the whole things fishy unless you add a female betta.  If the goldfish is big (not a small fry) and the aquarium has enough room for the betta to set up his own perch, they might tolerate each other.  But the scales are tipped towards the betta being too territorial, they are just shellfish that way.

I'd just get another tank just for the halibut.  Otherwise you'll probably just end up floundering trying to establish peace between the two.

i just sat the two tanks next to each other to see what happened. it wasn't good. poor bob... he got scared through two layers of glass!

yeah. they are also in seperate rooms. it's sort of relaxing to have a goldfish in my bedroom. thanks for your help!
