I have elevated blood pressure that is well controlled by Amlodipine I am also fond of grape fruit but am told in the package to avoid it.
What would result if I ignored this warning.

For clarity, amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker, rather than a beta-blocker...

Agreeing with Chris about it being a calcium channel blocker. I too am on 7.25 mg. A day of the amlodipine..Also 100 mg metoprol, and 160 mg of Valsartron that was just recalled so going back to losartan, and a pravastatin  at night..forget the dosage. I have also wondered about this as when I was on lipitor same warning. And when I had serious cramping from lipitor switched me to pravastatin thinking it would do same thing but it did not. But my pravastatin has the same grapefruit warning also. I would think it would render your meds ineffective which could in essence cause blood pressure spikes that could endanger your heart or even your life if you were to continuely or regularly combine the them. My understanding is that the high blood pressure can lead to a heart attack in the very least be exposing your heart to the at very least uncontrolled pressures that would normally be controlled with meds  minus  the grapfruit. Uncontrolled your heart has to work very hard to pump and I believe over time enlarges your heart.....thats at least my understanding of what mine did. Before blood pressure meds.
     I am coming up on a two month recovery from heart valve replacement. I  have been having trouble with high blood pressure for years and they kept me going by keeping my blood pressure down with various meds. In November of 2017 my blood pressure was starting to rise despite meds so we upped meds did scans found my bicuspid aortic valve was begining to fail. Over the following 3 months we had to keep increasing the blood pressure meds as they were not able to control the hypertension. So after replacement valve my meds were decreased, but I was experiencing a few different types of arrythmias that have been very uncomfortable so they are in process of getting ready to set me up with a 30 day halter type monitor that will be activated by me each time I feel them. Although I am told that it will be recording even when I am not aware or feeling it. This will be able to tell them when I am having any type of arrythmias that we may be dealing with.. So far, we know I have been throwing both pvcs and pavs..i think he called them as well as  ventricular tachycardia.  So as soon as my Doctor gets back from vacation they will be setting that up. I hope you are able to avoid the grapefruit as it is a small price to pay to keep your heart health... I do miss it too. But have gotten used to it... on occassion I crave an ice cold squirt... soda.... but I cannot have it because of the grapefruit...Good luck!
