Are we able to identify high risk points for thrombosis?
« on: 05/12/2018 20:47:01 »
Hi

Are we able to predict the points of thrombosis in various conditions?

Eg can we pinpoint the high risk plaque, other points with high risk for thrombosis, where deep vein thrombosis occurs, etc? Before the formation of blood clot?

Are you asking about veins, or arteries, or both? Because plaques don't happen in veins, and DVTs are exclusive to veins, as the name suggests.

I have seen some techniques used to reduce the chance of thombosis forming in patients who are stationary for a long time:
- Pressure stockings, to avoid clots forming in the legs
- A bed with multiple air bags, which have their pressure slowly increased and decreased over time, to avoid pressure points, bed sores and thrombosis.

And anti-coagulants (not recommended around the time of surgery!).

It is necessary to be active in our lives and we will not be in high risk group for thrombosis
