Brilliant. Then all you need is the topsoil that blew away thousands of years ago, and the rain that hasn't fallen since the trees were felled. The stuff infests Britain because it's cool, wet and fertile - like Japan.
Couldn't we find a use for the knotweed - such as feeding livestock on our farms, or making paper and cardboard from it?

A weed could become a crop in the right place and regenerate dead ground.
