Dear Peeps of all types,

I know that for me to help play my part in making a baby I have to give the female egg some spermy goodness !..I do this by putting to practice a rather clever delivery system...which concludes by me having an orgasm / climax.

Has it been proved, or is there any research to suggest that girlies stand a better chance of becoming preggy if they also have an orgasm too ?

If so...can ewe explain the nature of female orgasm/climax preggy process joy ?

There's a good reason for the female orgasm. It's a defence mechanism.

An orgasm relaxes them & helps them to sleep. While they're asleep they're not nagging their hubby; therefore hubby is less likely to feel compelled to murder them.  []

This is been studied forever and still baffles most in the scientific community! I have read a lot of different thoughts on the matter and find that the views from this interview with Elizabeth LLoyd were very interesting and the thoughts were entertaining as well. She has 50 years in evolutionary Biology as a background and has taken quite an interest in this aspect of human biology. Here is an interview with her on just your  subject Neil! Taken from here;

And so to the perplexing case of the female orgasm. It seems pretty clear to science why the male orgasm came to be. But evolutionary biologists, even women among their ranks, have struggled to explain the biological purpose of the female orgasm, and one of them has just thrown a spanner in the works. She’s rigorously reviewed 21 of the major theories in her new book The Case of the Female Orgasm: Bias In Evolutionary Science.

A collaborator with the late great Stephen Jay Gould, Professor Elisabeth Lloyd is a well-respected evolutionary theorist. She holds the Arnold and Maxine Tanis Chair of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Indiana, where she’s also Professor of Biology.

And she’s reignited one hell of a fiery debate. Could the female orgasm be like the male nipple – a mere byproduct without an evolutionary purpose?

Elisabeth Lloyd: Thank you very much.

Natasha Mitchell: Now look this is one of the most interesting unpickings of evolutionary biology that I’ve read. I gather your case of the female orgasm has catapulted you into the middle of something of a media frenzy in the USA this week. I mean sex and science is hot, but did you expect the attention?

Elisabeth Lloyd: No, I thought maybe some scientists would fight with me about it or I’d hope they would but, you know, The New York Times, Saturday Night Live…No, I certainly didn’t expect to meet Barbara Walters.

Natasha Mitchell: The media fray aside, there has been considerable scientific controversy and debate over the decades about the female orgasm and what its evolutionary purpose might be. Why has it been such an enigma for science?

Elisabeth Lloyd: I don’t actually know. I think that it’s at a very problematic intersection of topics. I mean, you’re taking the intersection of human evolution, women, sexuality – once you take that intersection you’re bound to kind of get a disaster. More than that, when evolutionists have looked at this topic, I think that they’ve had quite a few items on their agenda, including telling the story about human origins that bolsters up the family, monogamy, a certain view of female sexuality that’s complimentary to a certain view of male sexuality. And all of those items have been on their agenda and it’s quite visible in their explanations.

Natasha Mitchell: I guess it’s perplexed people partly, too, because women don’t need an orgasm to become pregnant, and so the question is: well, what’s its purpose? Well, is its purpose to give us pleasure so that we have sex, so that we can become pregnant, according to the classic evolutionary theories?

Elisabeth Lloyd: The problem is even worse than it appears at first because not only is orgasm not necessary on the female side to become pregnant, there isn’t even any evidence that orgasm makes any difference at all to fertility, or pregnancy rate, or reproductive success. It seems intuitive that a female orgasm would motivate females to engage in intercourse which would naturally lead to more pregnancies or help with bonding or something like that, but the evidence simply doesn’t back that up.

Natasha Mitchell: Now just a reminder here of what it means for a trait to be an adaptation or to be selected for over evolutionary time.

I have a completely new theory on this.

O.k so reading the site given by Karen, stated only 25% of women orgasm regularly.

I have noticed that some women urineate at the moment of orgasm. Just like the discussion of sex itself, that area is not really discussed.
I was discussing the fact that some women urinate at the moment of orgasm with a friend, she stated that "we learn to control that" (the only reason she feels compelled to stop herself urinating is, that it's a social sigma to do so, a stigma that pushes women to try not to urineate at the moment of orgasm).

Most women go to the toilet before they engage in sex to prevent that eventuality (the embarrassment).

But, what if women are meant to urinate at the moment of orgasm?
From an evolutionary point of view, what if the female 'marked' the male they had just copulated with. That marking would then show the other females that that male had been 'claimed'.

As a theory, it is a reversal of male domination, but can we be fully sure that the males always dominated early human societies?
If early human societies were female dominated, then urination could have been used by the alpha-female as a way to mark her male/s. Or it could have been tribal, so the females from another tribe would be put off 'by the marking', which would ensure that the males didn't stray to other female group/s; therefore guaranteeing that the males stayed to assist their own group (generally males stay to protect their genes, but if a male is allowed to stray he could end up with more children in another group and then leave his first group), 'marking' prevents that.

Noone has suggested it, it could be complete rubbish, but then having no reason for the orgasm is hardly a reasonable theory in my opinion.

So I suggest that the female orgasm originated as a way for the females to try and control the males within their social group.

Meant to work by mussel contraction, it was stated that as the female orgasmed her mussels (inside the vagina)contracted and that forced the sperm futher up inside her body, therefore making the chance of pregnancy more likely, as the sperm had less far to travel.

I doubt very much that females are likely to mark the male, but it is very likely that the male in many (maybe most) species of animal can smell the oestrogen levels in the females urine, and so can use that to say if she is on heat.

I cannot say if there is any possibility that a female orgasm would help the sperm within the body (at least, I doubt the physical action would do that, although it is very possible that fluid secretions might do so), but I would think it possible the orgasm might help stimulate the penis, and so keep the male interested for longer (this not only increasing the amount of sperm delivered, but reducing the chances that the male will have any interest in any other female any time shortly after).

Then again, I cannot say I have made a great practical study of the topic.

I must say The idea of "Peeing" on my partner is rather a turn off! LOL.. I just cannot even imagine it being natural as I have never felt the need or urge to do so!

I understand you are totally serious and I feel in the dark about this concept... Who is going to volunteer to test this theory!!!! LOL...hmmmmm?

Well, it can as my friend said, be controlled, so it's not an involuntary act or rather some women can stop themselves, although others can't. I haven't come across it either I have seen some documentary footage though.

This does relate though, we still don't know why women orgasm, and female ejaculation is a part of that.

Could it have worked to guarantee that the male in question would only sleep with the same female until the smell left him?
That would mean that the male would stay with that female for longer, as she would be the only one that was receptive to him. That could give them more time to bond or at least help the female to gain a child from a chosen male.

The female orgasm comes at the end of intercourse, after the male has succeeded, so it could work to assist the sperm, or give the male and female more pleasure and help with bonding, both of those theories are disputed, I'm suggesting that it worked to trap the male, by putting off other females, just long enough that the female while receptive got as much of her chosen males attention as possible, which increases her chances of pregnancy and helps the male bond with her.

Trouble is not many people would like the idea, even if it was proven true.

Which ever way you go, all areas of the female orgasm have to be looked into.

It can with men too. Unfortunately your not in 75% group that rarely or never has that. I see your point unlike the male orgasm the female orgasm can be varied in position and repeated throughout intercourse, but there is a difference between a climax and an orgasm, the difference being that a climax finishes the story, an orgasm doesn't. I don't think girls that ejaculate want to carry on afterwards, will need to check that. The only problem is that my documentary footage stops at the ejaculation.

There is something that people should consider though because those orgasms that happen before the penetration or as penetration starts, just make the whole issue even more complex.

I don't know about bonding but I believe it gives a man more pleasure to be able to bring about this pleasure for a women as well as himself and perhaps help aid his ego a bit also! The more she can climax the better and more viril he may feel, as well he should! LOL!

Yeah, it could work to help the male to climax. Maybe cavemen had trouble in that department. Both parties want a child, so you would assume that they would work to help each other out in achieving that end.

Now..Climax is definitely great and helpful in that it aides me to sleep, but like I said the orgasms could not hurt the male in between, or am I mistaken and you men do not receive pleasure from extra pressure received from the womans orgasm during intercourse..?  I always thought it better for men if that extra squeeze increased pleasure for your end..result!  Now I am no expert been married to the same man for 26+ years with very limited experience. No experience prior to that at least none notable to this thread! LOL So perhaps it is different with different men and women, perhaps we are all different that way!
